As an Information Security Engineering Specialist, you will report to the Manager Information Security Engineering, and will function as a member of the Information Security team to help operate and develop the Valero Information Security Program. The primary focus of this position is to deploy, operate and monitor technical security controls. The position’s incumbent will also work with the security team to define security policies, processes and guidelines. A Hybrid work schedule is available after a short training period. The hybrid work schedule is determined between the employee and the manager.

Responsibilities:

Deploys, operates and monitors technical security controls such as hardware firewalls, web application firewalls, IDS/IPS, SPAM Filters, and Web proxies.
Collaborates on critical IT projects to ensure that security issues are addressed throughout the project life cycle.
Researches, evaluates, and recommends information-security-related hardware and software.
Performs control and vulnerability assessments to identify control weaknesses and assess the effectiveness of existing controls, and recommends action.
Provides second and third-level support and analysis during and after a security incident.
Plans, estimates and manages small I/S Security projects using Valero’s project methodology.
Provides support of computing equipment and software, to include complex needs analysis, configuration, installation, moves, and changes for all supported locations during and after hours.
Researches and assesses new threats and security alerts, and recommends remedial actions.
This role demands strong analytical and problem-solving skills, systematic thinking, and a good understanding of technologies deployed in the infrastructure environment.
Develops training material and documentation as needed.
Continuously monitors the status and effectiveness of security controls
May be required to work off-hours and on weekends for projects and/or support.
Some travel may be required.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor's degree (or higher) in Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field, or equivalent.
5+ years of relevant information security and IT experience including a high degree of technical security technology expertise required.

Preferred Requirements:

Excellent understanding of information security concepts, principles, and best practices.
Knowledge of a wide range of security technologies, such as:

Network security appliances
Identity and access management systems
Anti-malware solutions
Automated policy compliance tools
Desktop security tools

Ability to communicate security and risk concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
A high level of personal integrity and the ability to professionally handle confidential matters with proper judgment.
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC).
Experience in application technology security testing tools.
