Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Pilot Plant Technician located in Freeport, Texas.

About you

We have an opportunity for a Pilot Plant Technician in our Research and Development Function located in Freeport, Texas. The Pilot Plant Technician will utilize process knowledge and operations expertise to safely and proficiently operate the Gas Phase Catalyst Facility pilot plant. The key deliverables are accurate process data and catalyst batches that meet timelines to make decisions about commercial scale-up and implementation of new catalysts for gas phase polyethylene technology. The Pilot Plant Technician performs operations related activities as per Procedures, Master Task List, Log Book and executes inputs from trial documents and run sheets. Corrects process or equipment issues and coordinates pilot plant maintenance activities.

Also, you can complete each of the following tasks:

Applies previous related experience, job-related training, or formal vocational training to ensure safe and efficient operation of assigned plant areas.
Operates and field checks process equipment, and monitors process conditions, equipment, and control systems in a defined area.
Performs tasks assigned to operations as per Master Task List (e.g. Field checks, equipment preparation, samples, etc.).
Uses trouble shooting skills to resolve process related deviations and problems, and understands how the assigned duties relate to others in the team and how the team integrates with other related teams.
Monitors, collects, and inputs plant metrics for Statistical Process Control, asset utilization, production yields, and identifies opportunities for plant optimization.
Performs process equipment troubleshooting, minor repairs, improvements and preventative maintenance.
Uses process knowledge and skills to make improvements in plant performance and Operating discipline, including creating and improving job procedures.
Demonstrates proficient application of Life Critical Standards, operate plant discipline and sets role model in safety culture.
Write Safe Work Permits (SWPs) and perform lock out/tag out.
Participates in Root Cause Investigations.
Performs process upset/crisis response activities assigned by pilot plant leadership.
Participate in all pilot plant related and block Block Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) activities
Completes all assigned training per facility training plan.

Required qualifications

Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and have the ability to learn new systems quickly.
Must be willing to work rotating shift schedule including weekends and holidays.
Must be willing to work overtime (extra hours beyond your regular schedule), if required.
Must have a current, valid US driver’s license
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process
A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent

AND must meet ONE of the following:

Have already obtained or currently enrolled in a Process Technology (PTEC or similar) degree 2 year degree program and within 20 credit hours of graduation
OR, 4 or more years of relevant technical military experience/training
OR, 5 or more years of work experience in a chemical facility operations role.

Your preferred qualifications include:

Prior experience in R&D and/or chemical facility operations

Willing and able to meet physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes
Wear and use respirators.
Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
Work in tight or closed-in spaces.
Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.
Stand or walk for extended periods of time.
Lift a maximum of 50 lbs.
