Job Objective:

An Accounting Advisory Lead – Regulatory and Compliance is a self-directed individual with strong analytical and leadership skills joining a Technical Accounting Advisory –Team located in Houston, TX to drive process improvements and provide support to our Controllers’ Business users. Looking for solid demonstrable Upstream Oil & Gas experience in SAP ECC 6 and S4 HANA in the Production Revenue Accounting module. The successful candidate must be customer focused, with good communication and technical leadership skills.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Understand the needs of the Operational Accounting functions, and how the Technical Accounting team supports those needs while also representing the needs of Technical Accounting to the business
Envision, design, and deliver accounting policies and procedures that generate value in terms of risk reduction, regulatory compliance, automation, efficiency by exploiting best in practice Accounting policies.
Use standard SAP-supplied tools to help modernize Accounting operations to improve reliability, increase operational efficiency, reduce cost, troubleshoot/debug and then recommend solutions
Assist in the evaluation of accounting processes and controls, with an objective of increasing efficiencies and provide better information for management decision making.
Working with accounting teams to optimize and implement new accounting standards and company best practices.
Translate project documents, including reports and project specific business rules into technical specification document for development by internal or external resources.
Support end users and super users with training where required regarding SAP.
Use ticketing system to respond to and resolve problem tickets and service requests raised by users; Provide other ad-hoc support and assistance, as requested
Coordinate with Business and other IT resources to deliver and support SAP/PRA and Non-SAP solutions
Communicate with IT, SAP Functional Support, and Management on the status of projects and escalate requests on behalf of the Technical Accounting Advisory team as needed
Represent Hilcorp Regulatory and Compliance needs at monthly PROFOG Steering Committee meetings and lobby for our high priority projects to be prioritized and worked on timely by SAP
Participate in sub-committee meetings for PROFOG
Ability to identify, communicate, present and resolve routine and complex issues to all levels of the organization.

Other Job Responsibilities:

Lead PRA system enhancement projects, upgrade projects, and implementations; Gather/clarify business requirements for reported incidents or enhancement requests
Work with Hilcorp IT to prepare detailed design specifications for program, report, or interface development activities
Provide post-production support as required for application continuity and long-term maintainability
Guide the business in utilizing SAP/PRA functionality including review of existing business processes and system integration challenges
Maintain up-to-date competency in ECC 6 / S4 HANA IS-OIL specific to PRA, and other relevant integrated SAP modules and sub-modules such as FI/CO and JVA Lead improvement activities & implementation of strategic initiatives Perform technical leadership & consulting for complex efforts

Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

Five (5) years of experience with various SAP Financial and PRA modules (e. g. Controlling, General Ledger, Projects, Special Ledger) and working knowledge of integration to other key modules
Eight (8) years Working experience with Regulatory and Compliance with regards to Upstream Accounting, or at a minimum, working experience supporting accounting processes
Working Knowledge and hands-on experience related to US-Onshore Upstream Royalty Reporting, including State, Indian, Federal obligations, Severance tax payment and reporting, including, State and Indian obligations, and ONRR reporting for On-shore US assets.
Use Knowledge and hands-on functional configuration experience with SAP PRA and related sub-module configuration including Production/Regulatory sub-module processes and reports Government Royalty sub-modules and related processes (both States and Federal) Revenue sub-modules (RD, CA, VL, Check Input, etc.) and related processes Ownership sub-module and processes Private Royalty Payment Processing sub-module, peripheral payment processes (1099, Escheat, etc.) State Severance Tax sub-modules primarily 2. 0
Strong technical aptitude to analyze/debug issues, comprehend and support complex processes based on standard and customized SAP/PRA configuration
Good understanding of ABAP programming language
Strong problem-solving skills as well as incident and change management knowledge
Excellent Communication skills (verbal and written)
Strong interpersonal and team working skills
Ability to mentor other Accounting and IT professionals with less Oil and Gas Industry experience
Proficiency in the use and application of the following software: Required: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook)

Education Requirements:

University degree (IT related and/or Financial/Accounting related) - B. S. or B. B. A in Computer Science / Computer Information Systems or equivalent B. A. in Finance or Accounting
