Job Description

Specific Responsibilities

The Exploration Data Analyst for Apache Corporation will be a member of the Exploration Pillar at the company’s Houston, Texas office reporting to the Manager, Geoscience Data Technology.  The successful candidate will support both the Applied Geoscience Technology Group (AGT) and Global Geoscience & Portfolio Team with research, data management, and visualizations. 
This role will primarily be responsible for the following:
•    Build and maintain advanced data solutions (databases, data warehouses, and possible cloud solutions) to support the AGT Team and Global Geoscience Portfolio Team;
•    Collaborate with the Exploration teams across the company to facilitate updates;
•    Develop optimized workflows for data migration between applications, dashboards, and web maps; and
•    Generate reports and visualizations to help communicate results to audiences from the exploration teams to the executive level.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

General Qualifications Needed:

•    Minimum 10 years in experience as a geoscience or engineering data tech or similar role, preferably in the oil & gas business;
•    Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work across teams in different locations;
•    Ability to quickly evaluate and learn new technologies;
•    Background in data science; and
•    Excellent project management and communication skills; mature and professional attitude.

Data Management Qualifications Needed:

•    Spotfire data analytics and visualization skills at an advanced or expert level;
•    Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data manipulation, aggregation, and organization;
•    Must be able to write script for data manipulation and other tasks in a common programing language such as VBA, SQL, Python, etc.;
•    Experience building and maintaining databases using tools such as Microsoft Access, SQL and linking to external analysis tools; and
•    Data transformation and quality assurance experience, including the development of automated quality control scripts.

Geoscience Qualifications Needed:

•    Understanding of the types and uses of various rock and fluids data, including a sense of units of measure. Datasets include TOC, pyrolysis, oil/fluid chemistry, XRD, XRF, Porosity/Perm, MICP, UCS/Rock Strength;
•    Strong organizational skills and willingness to condition various data types into consistent units/reporting structure;
•    Willingness to mine data from vendor and consortia databases to build/incorporate into APA data structure; and
•    Ability to build data plots in various formats, including Ternary diagrams.

 Skills and software application experience strongly preferred:

•    Experience working on petroleum exploration projects and knowledge of exploration volumes and risking using GeoX or a similar tool;
•    Experience with ArcGIS;
•    Familiarity with analytics/visualization tools other than Spotfire is desirable;
•    Familiarity with PetroVR;
•    Familiarity with Aucerna Portfolio; and
•    Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook & Teams.
