Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.

As a Design Release Engineer for Suspension and Structure, you will be responsible for definition of requirements, design, analysis, development and control of complex subsystems where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative are involved. Individual will receive general direction from supervisor, but exercise independent judgment.

Prepares CTS (component technical specification) and SSTS (subsystem technical specifications)
Develops, refines and finalizes criteria and typical sections using math data
Develops SOR (system of requirements) for subsystem
Supports/Leads technical review
Participates in technical review in support of peers
Defines ICD (interface control document) requirements for component and subsystems, negotiates and reaches agreement with interfacing components, works with other to resolve issues
Performs appropriate studies/alternatives, and recommends program direction based on cost, mass, timing
Supports/Leads PDT (product development team) for component/subsystems (e.g. timing, parts list, DFM, )
Supports determination of support requirements (e.g. design and analysis)
Validates design using analytical tools including finite element, modal, virtual builds and others at component level
Responsible for ensuring complete validation, including establishment of component validation plan
Releases component/subsystem to meet system requirements
Reviews current product warranty data and addresses emerging issues.
Develops and implements cost optimization changes to process and/or product.
Coordinates engineering activities with other functions (e.g. suppliers, supplier quality, purchasing) to ensure delivery of product meeting requirements and imperatives
Stays abreast of new technology
Translates lessons learned into standard methodologies
Familiar with engineering operations and processes
Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations
Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering such as manufacturing
Travels as required

 

Additional Description
Required Skills / Qualifications / Education:

Bachelor of Science with a STEM focus
2+ years of post-graduation engineering experience
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others
High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult
Experience with engineering operations, processes, and standard methodologies
Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle
Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Skills / Qualifications / Education:

5+ years of post-graduation engineering experience preferred
DFSS Black Belt Certification
Experience with multiple cycles of Vehicle Development Process within area of responsibility.
Manufacturing experience with Suspension and Chassis Structure
Suspension and Chassis Structure Release Experience
Masters of Science in Engineering
General interest and ability in integration and system understanding
Familiarity with manufacturing processes
Experience with Suspension and Chassis Structure
Experience with CAE, Vehicle Development, Validation
