Located in Boulder, Colorado, the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) is one of the world’s premier scientific institutions, with an internationally recognized staff and research program dedicated to advancing knowledge, providing community-based resources, and building human capacity in the atmospheric and related sciences.  NCAR is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and managed by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR). ?

What You Will Do:

Performs project management, coordination, and business analysis for projects across the Director’s Office in an effort to guide the timely completion of project goals.

Responsibilities:

Project Management

Under the limited supervision of a project manager, contributes to or leads the following aspects of a large, complex project:

Works with project team members and stakeholders to define project requirements, and maintain them through change Management activities
Maintains comprehensive project plans, including Scope, Schedule, and communications plans
Assists in the communication of project status to stakeholder via written status reports or oral presentations
Contributes to the effort to develop baseline risk assessments; monitors project risks and mitigation plans and prepares risk management summary reports.

Specific responsibilities include coordinating business requirements, developing, and monitoring project plans and schedules, effectively applying project management methodology and enforcing project standards, managing change control and documentation, facilitating team communication and status reports, driving critical trade-off decisions, and working with project teams made up of division/lab staff, external advisory committees, NCAR Management, and outside vendors. In addition, facilitating large, UCAR wide listening sessions, and broad/ general communication project status meetings will be needed at the discretion of the project manager.

Meeting Facilitation

Facilitates project meetings through detailed notes and action item determination, agenda development, and whole team engagement activities.
Responsible for organizing engagement activities as well as follow-up actions related to outcomes of engagement activities (e.g., creates action plans to better engagements).

Business Analyst

Under the limited supervision of a project manager, this position guides business development activities through improving processes and services through data analysis. This position helps to bridge the gap between end users of business processes and end users to create improvements in operational efficiencies

What You Need:

Bachelor's degree in a related field, and at least one year of experience managing various phases of projects, or an equivalent combination of experience
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply project management principles to a variety of business process improvement projects (e.g. SAM).
Demonstrated skill in establishing and facilitating large, multi-stakeholder meetings and communications/ project status updates
Excellent organizational skills demonstrated by managing multiple priorities/projects.
Demonstrated skill in developing project schedules using Microsoft Excel/ Google Sheets or other like project management tool
Demonstrated skill in using Microsoft Office to create advanced documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
Basic knowledge of human resource processes including promotion and tenure package development (e.g., ARG) and position funding principles for UCAR
Demonstrated experience in process modeling.
Proven ability to respond positively and productively to uncertainty, rapid changes, and ambiguity.
Skill in directing the work of diverse scientific and administrative personnel. Ability to motivate teams of individuals.
Knowledge of UCAR policies and procedures.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in presenting technical and sensitive information to internal audiences.
