Specialist – On-Time Delivery

Job Description

The core responsibility of this position is to monitor and improve the steel mill’s On Time Delivery (OTD) performance for all steel orders to various customers. This is achieved through system or process inefficiency investigations, reporting tool development, and communication of measurement metrics. This person will be expected to learn how customer orders are fulfilled, locate issues or bottlenecks in the process, and develop plans on how to address said failure points. This role requires flexibility to learn specifics in order entry and processing, customer-specific order requirements, and analyze system issues. The typical job responsibilities include:

Monitor daily plant operations to better understand process issues that could lead to order processing bottlenecks or interruptions that could impact on time delivery to customers
Understand specific order entry or scheduling process issues and communicate information to the plant personnel for action
Perform individual customer/piece history investigations to answer questions from management, Commercial, and other departments
Work closely with customer account representatives, planning and scheduling group, and process and shipping leads across the organization to achieve OTD metrics
Drive several key meetings critical to OTD performance, as well as prepare data/information for said meetings
Become familiar with Microsoft Power BI, as this is the primary OTD tool that is used to communicate metrics and develop reporting tools in facilitating OTD improvements
Perform upkeep and administrative tasks in the plant’s Power BI ecosystem
Participate in other projects as needed that are in line with the target of improving OTD
Analyze raw data as part of investigations or development work

Minimum Requirements:

General understanding of a manufacturing environment or industrial processing facility
Strong analytical ability for identifying and solving business inefficiencies
Excellent ability to communicate across all levels of the organization
Proficient in Microsoft Tools suite – Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, SharePoint
Database knowledge and experience of writing simple SQL statements for data verification and troubleshooting, or ability and willingness to learn and apply SQL
Self-motivated individual as both group work and independent work is required

Preferred Requirements:

2+ years of experience in the steelmaking industry and an understanding of steel manufacturing process
Experience with data querying utilizing SQL Server Management Studio and/or Oracle SQL Developer
Experience with Power BI, both as a developer in Desktop and administration in Service
Prior work in improving process efficiency, continuous improvement, or optimization
Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to work with a variety of work groups throughout the organization
Strong personal drive and motivation to learn can make up for lack of knowledge
