eVTOL Battery Systems Integration Engineer:
Bell is seeking subject matter expertise in battery technology. The eVTOL Battery Systems Integration Engineer is responsible for the design, execution, and integration of battery systems, bringing experience that reduces design iterations and enables innovation within the eVTOL space. This position is located at Bell Flight’s headquarters in Ft. Worth, TX.
Position Responsibilities:
Battery system design, bringing experience in cells, modules, HV bus and controls, BMS / diagnostics, battery safety, multi-physics analysis, and testing / qualification
Requirements definition for battery system based on aircraft loads and environment
Structural integration, thermal management analysis and integration
Controls & electronics integration, bringing experience in interaction between components
Battery supplier liaison and technical management, battery vehicle integration oversight, and battery qualification support
Support vehicle design and performance trade studies
Coordination with other vehicle design teams such as Flight Technologies, Avionics and Controls, Airframe Design, etc., in support of design configuration trades and decisions
Supplier technical oversight for additional procured system components
Support of propulsion system component qualification and flight test activities
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree is required. Major in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering is preferred. Bachelor’s Degree in Physics will be considered.
Master’s degree with thesis related to battery technology preferred.
Position Requirements:
All years of experience will be considered, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience relating to battery technology is required
Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills in electrical, thermal, structural, and systems domains, including root cause determination and corrective action
Technical evaluation of and managing subcontracts including SOW, specifications, ICDs, RFPs, and schedules
Supplier technical oversight: requirements flow-down, supplier management, and supplier-level component and system qualification support
Experience in Multiphysics HV battery system simulation, with physics knowledge and battery systems experience to efficiently create models that provide answers to design questions
Experience in Circuit simulation and analysis of HV hardware (normal and failure), loads, and Li-ion cells, including transient response of reactive components, using Matlab Simulink or similar tools
Fluent in ANSYS and CFX, AMESim
Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 23 and Part 27 for commercial and military qualification and certification of aircraft systems
Experience with rotorcraft mechanical systems integration
