Position Description
 

Project Management responsibilities for a portion of the soil and groundwater remediation sites and related projects within Kinder Morgan’s environmental remediation portfolio. Additionally, provide on-call 24/7 emergency response support, as needed, for pipeline and terminal spills/leaks.
Provide project management and oversight for assigned projects to meet safety, compliance, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
Develop strategy and lead complex environmental remediation projects to minimize risks and achieve the best possible outcome for the company.
Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures in addition to project related regulatory agency orders and permits.

Develop and implement projects that meet the company’s core objectives, and proactively communicate project information to various levels of management.

Identify, track, manage and resolve project issues, including management of the procurement process, and evaluating and choosing appropriate team members and contractor/vendors, as well as mitigate project risks.
Maintain project budget controls, budgets, forecasts and variance explanations for management review and discussion.
Develop and implement cost effective and efficient solutions for environmental remediation sites /projects. Provide oversight of contractor teams.
Determine schedules for each project and coordinate implementation with relevant stakeholders.
Develop and maintain diligent and ongoing working relationships with internal company stakeholders including Operations, Engineering, Right-of-way, Legal, etc.
Interface effectively with regulatory agencies, the public, third parties, contractors, internal company stakeholders, and legal representatives. Attend and participate as Kinder Morgan’s representative in regulatory and private party meetings.
Active participation, as needed, in emergency response actions for pipeline and terminal spills/leaks.
Provide environmental expertise to commercial, business development, legal, and business unit management, as requested.
Participation as a subject matter expert in technical work groups.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Consistently maintain and demonstrate a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets, employees, and the general public.

Position Requirements
 

Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering is required. Acceptable fields of study include geology, hydrogeology, geophysics, engineering, chemistry, biology, environmental science, or other related field.
Minimum of 6 to 10 years of experience in environmental remediation project work with a proven record of positive public and agency relations.
Familiarity with all appropriate federal, state and local regulations, including RCRA and CERCLA.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to represent Company interests while complying with mandated requirements.
Appropriate OSHA hazardous materials training (OSHA 1910) required prior to or shortly after employment.
A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid State driver's license are required.
Related state Licensure (i.e. Professional Engineer, Professional Geologist, CHMM, etc. preferred but not required.
Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite, as well as the ability to learn and effectively utilize other software applications used within the Company.
Well-balanced interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communications skills are required.
Must be accountable and take direction from Managers; keep required work schedules, which include regular and predictable job attendance; focus attention on details; follow work rules.
Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential.
Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.
Must be able to work under stressful conditions, and adapt and respond to changing circumstances.
Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or direction.
Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
Successful track record in Project Management tasks including oversight of contractors, project team members including various internal and external stakeholders, interaction with legal representation, and communication of progress, strategy, goals, and fiscal status.
Employee must be physically capable of completing and satisfying all training requirements as stipulated by local, state or federal agencies and/or Company Policy.
Potential exposure to smells associated with refined petroleum products.
Field activities may include walking to and amidst work and/or construction sites, working around heavy equipment, negotiating rough terrain, or areas of loose rock.
Required to carry a cell phone (monthly charges paid by Company) and be available to respond during working and non-working hours 24/7, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Up to 50% travel required within the United States, sometimes on short notice.
Travel will be by most suitable method to meet company needs, such as airplane or car. May be required to obtain a US passport.
Overtime required and extended work hours in cases of emergencies.
Possessing or obtaining a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is a preferred and may be required in order to manage projects at some facilities. TWIC card is obtained by submitting an application, background check, and having fingerprints taken.
