Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Tech cleans, inspects, and prepares routine and specialty instrument sets and specialty trays for Surgery Department. Is knowledgeable about the names of surgical instruments and on which trays they belong. Is knowledgeable about the fundamentals of asepsis, and insuring proper protocols are followed to ensure appropriate sterilization of instruments and trays.

Qualifications:

Required Training/Education/Experience/Certification:
Successful completion of IAHCSMM certification within 6 months of hire or transfer into the department (unless equivalent SPD Certification already completed).

Desired Training/Education/Experience/Certification:
(1) Completion of an approved Sterile Processing Technician course,
(2) Operating Room Technician experience, or (3) IAHCSMM Certification (or equivalent SPD Certification).

Must be able to complete simple math problems well enough to itemize instruments being prepared. Must be able to follow instructions, work quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment. Analytical and grammatical skills are necessary to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Organizational and multi-tasking skills are essential. Must be fluent in spoken and written English. Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
