Principal Engineer for EDA License Management

Job Description

General Summary

As the global lead for the EDA License Management team in the Global CAD (GCAD) organization, you will be responsible for defining, leading, and managing the a multi-million dollar portfolio of EDA tools and licenses for all of Qualcomm globally. In this key role, you will be leading a team to develop EDA license strategies and analysis to optimize utilization and minimize costs for new and existing EDA tools in the Qualcomm global EDA portfolio. You will be collaborating with and influencing engineering, CAD, IT, procurement/sourcing, finance, and EDA vendors to ensure we are executing to well defined strategies. You will have a small team of commercial and technical reports that manage license usage, driving forecasts, planning fiscal budgets, reading and understanding EDA contracts, supporting and influencing EDA vendor contract negotiations, creating/driving EDA license usage and optimization strategies, and also automating critical processes. You will be the primary lead for annual EDA license budget presentation development and will be called upon to present in high visibility EIC and other budgetary meetings up to the CFO level in the company, requiring strong presentation and communication skills.

• ASIC design flow process understanding
• Strong data analytics capability
• Microsoft Excel super user
• Business process oriented to drive documented and repeatable processes to enable, manage, and measure results
• Influence and presentation skills – ability to influence partner groups and to develop/present strategic data to executives
• 7-10 years relevant experience
• EDA license or software license management experience strongly preferred
• Some programming knowledge preferred to recognize and drive automation opportunities
• Splunk database familiarity and skills preferred

Physical Requirements

• Frequently transports between offices, buildings, and campuses up to ½ mile.

• Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 5 lbs.

• Performs required tasks at various heights (e.g., standing or sitting).

• Monitors and utilizes computers and test equipment for more than 6 hours a day.

• Continuous communication which includes the comprehension of information with colleagues, customers, and vendors both in person and remotely.

Bachelors - Computer Science, Bachelors - Engineering, Bachelors - Information Systems

Work Experiences:

8+ years CAD experience, EDA experience, or related work experience.

Work Experiences:

4+ years experience with hardware design software such as layout, verification, schematic, timing tools. ,4+ years in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports. ,3+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with executive leadership (e.g., Sr. Director level and above). ,15+ years CAD experience, EDA experience, or related work experience. ,4+ years experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc. ,4+ years experience with scripting and automation environments.
