Job Description

As a member of the Corporate Affairs Department, the Manager has public relations experience and is a strong writer. The Manager will be responsible for assisting the team with media relations activities as well as the development and execution of strategic plans and supporting public relations activities for the company’s global operations.

Assist with media relations, public affairs initiatives, issues management, and other relevant reputation-enhancing and –protection strategies to support Occidental’s business objectives
Develop and support the department’s implementation of communication programs at the corporate-level and for the company's global business units
Serve as the external communications lead for one or more business units, and represent company on trade association communications committees
Draft media statements, news releases, background documents, Q&A documents and other materials necessary for internal and external use
Provide recommendations on media inquiries based on research and understanding of Occidental’s business
Manage the company’s media monitoring
Contribute content for Occidental’s website, intranet, social media, fact sheets, brochures, annual reports and other collateral
Coordinate with vendors
Lead or collaborate on communications projects

 

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 6-8 years of communications experience with a PR agency or in a corporate communications department
Degree in a communications field or related discipline
Petroleum, petrochemical or financial industry experience preferred
Client-centered and able to work in a fast-paced environment, manage priorities and meet tight deadlines
Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills to ensure accuracy and stylistic consistency
Excellent project management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members and internal clients
Must be organized, detail-oriented and a resourceful problem solver with the ability to formulate and execute plans efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision
Maturity, confidence, poise and presence necessary to interface effectively with senior-level executives as well as external constituents such as business partners and media
Familiarity with online and other research sources and methods
