The Delivery and Device Connected Solutions Innovation team in Cambridge explores and applies new technical solutions across delivery systems, with focus in the following areas:

* Mechanical and electromechanical systems
* Injection/infusion fluidic control systems
* Electronic communication and firmware
* Software and connected delivery solutions
* Drug delivery of new therapeutic modalities

Responsibilities of this role include:

* Design and development of high quality, low-cost electronic circuits for embedded control applications from concept to production
* Lead and engage in product development activities for safety critical drug delivery devices, which may include user needs, use cases, requirements, designs, SW implementation, electrical design, board layout, prototype evaluation and test development
* Support the establishment of electrical and software development tools and labs to enable product development activities
* Evaluate, develop, and design drug delivery systems with a focus on emerging technologies
* Identify and monitor ground-breaking technologies as well as trends in patient centered disease management (i.e., diabetes connected product systems and patient support systems)
* Establish and utilize strategic relationships with academia and start-ups to accelerate and access emerging innovation
* Work with external partners to design and prototype early concepts to support the delivery strategy
* Connect with the broader Lilly organization
* Understand IP, freedom to operate and competitive landscape in targeted areas of research
* Coach and mentor other engineers and scientists

Minimum Requirements:

* PhD (7+ years experience), MS (10+ years experience), BS (12+ years experience) (Electrical Engineering or Biomedical preferred)
* 5+ years hands-on electronics and embedded software prototyping, debug, verification, and failure analysis skills, in areas such as, but not limited to, medical devices and consumer products
* Expertise in embedded hardware development (schematic and PCB design of microcontroller-based control circuits) and assembly; analog design experience is a plus
* Expertise in embedded firmware development using C programming language
* Proficiency with laboratory test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, device programmers, debuggers, DMMs)
* Experience with ECAD software packages (Altium or similar)

Additional Skills/Preferences:

* Previous medical device
* Experience in one or more of the following fields:
* Implementing Wireless communication circuits and protocols (BLE, NFC, RFID, WIFI, etc.)
* Ultra-low power embedded systems
* Connected products in Health applications
* Experience with functional simulations using Spice
* Experience with iOS/Android applications
* Electrical safety (IEC 60601-1) and EMI/EMC (60601-1-2)
* Experience with communication protocols (e.g., USB, CAN, RS-485, RS-232, I2C, SPI)
* Desire and ability to coach/mentor junior engineering talent
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to be an inclusive leader/colleague in a highly interdisciplinary environment
* Effective technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills

* Location: Cambridge, MA.
* Travel is part of job, usually 10-15% but up to ~30% of time within US and OUS.
