Reporting Relationships: Reports to VP, BTO Operational Excellence.  Direct reports include 5 Enterprise Productivity professionals ranging from Director to Sr. Analyst. 

Core Duties and Responsibilities: 

Provides strategic consultation to executive management, including business unit leadership teams. Participates and serves as an expert in internal discussions on strategic planning and operational excellence methodologies. Partners with business leaders and department heads to identify, evaluate and deliver operational efficiency opportunities for the enterprise through:

The development and delivery of an enterprise productivity strategy blueprint and standards to achieve Nationwide’s operating efficiency objective
Leadership of Value Stream Optimization lever to identify and realize efficiency opportunities across enterprise functions
Development and Strategy of Streamline Operations ELT Council actions including the identification and scaling of new operating efficiency levers
Delivery of special projects for business units, OCEO, Management Committee

Leading BTO Staff Operations. Oversees staff operations and administration for the Business Transformation Office with responsibility for operational budget, continuous improvement, acquisition / development of high-potential talent, associate engagement, business partner management, communications, strategic planning, etc.

OCEO, Board and ELT Level Executive Presentation. Serves as a central point of communication, coordination and information flow for the Streamline Operations One Nationwide Council and the BTO leadership team to ensure consistency in messaging and approach. Manages the development / delivery of presentations and leadership messages including operational excellence strategy and blueprint for the enterprise to the OCEO, Management Committee

Relationship building and influencing. Cultivates relationships with enterprise stakeholders including business unit and corporate area leaders, capability leaders, senior executives and external partners to identify/maintain pipeline of operational efficiency efforts, share thought leadership and facilitate operational innovation

Lead Special Projects. Leads an internal team of 5-10 associates to analyze operational challenges and opportunities across business areas and utilize a combination of operational excellence and core consulting tools to optimize the enterprise’s customer value streams. The team will be responsible for:

Mobilizing and deploying new enterprise levers for the Streamline Operations One Nationwide Council
Executing the Value Stream Optimization lever across the enterprise
Driving the delivery of special enterprise projects for consumption by Business Units, One Nationwide Councils, ELT, OCEO and the Board

Typical Skills and Experiences: 

Education: Proven knowledge of strategic planning, operational excellence and project management tools, concepts, and methodologies., MBA or equivalent is preferred. Demonstrated academic success.

Experience: Significant leadership experience with high-impact strategic, operational improvement and regulatory projects, from either a top tier consulting firm or a fortune 100 internal consulting / strategic planning group with proven track record of success. Expert strategic leader with proven ability to bring structure to ambiguity, lead high priority enterprise initiatives, and drive operational rigor. Demonstrated ability to leverage business and industry knowledge. Working knowledge of the insurance industry is preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Must have excellent business strategy and operations expertise and exceptional people skills with the ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally. Excellent problem solving and storyboarding skills including the ability to structure problems, identify core issues, articulate problem statements, lead problem solving discussions, and disaggregate issues into discrete work streams that result in solutions. Demonstrated competency in clearly communicating thoughts, ideas, and concepts both verbally in individual and group settings and in writing. Must demonstrate ability to provide actionable advice/solutions to stakeholders and business partners and builds effective partnerships with business partners ensuring priorities are aligned. Must be able to work and manage large, complex projects. Expert team builder with the ability to develop and lead engaged high performing teams.
