Job Description
Primary Responsibilities:
Provides inspection services to the Dearborn Works operating departments
Provides on-turn supervision to the inspectors located in the operating departments being serviced
Works with production supervision to identify and correct problems which cause surface quality and dimensional defects and provides feedback to these departments on their quality performance
Makes disposition of non-conforming material per the applicable quality standards and changes routing steps per prescribed procedure
Provides on-turn containment of defective or potentially defective material
Reviews all current standard operating instructions and temporary work instructions
Conducts routine safety meetings, prepares department safety procedures, maintains safety records and performs safety contacts by review of General Safety Orders and safety procedures
Conducts weekly safety/housekeeping inspection of assigned area(s)
Conducts quality audits, observations, and contacts of inspectors as assigned
Validates product quality with routine comprehensive checks while making rounds to operating units and/or offline Quality Coil (Q-coil) checks and inspections
Assists quality and operating departments on ad hoc critical quality/surface inspection needs
Assists in the disposition of product held at local outside processor facilities on an as needed basis
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Must have knowledge of Operations and Customer Quality Standards and/or relevant experience as determined by management
Must be willing to complete all aspects of the position required to ensure compliance with AK Steel’s Safety program
Previous supervisory experience a plus but not mandatory
Strong leadership and effective management skills to direct employees in efficient operations
Ability to evaluate problems, correctly focus the resources and make efficient decisions
Must be willing to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays
