Overview
Safety & Training Manager assists Operating Units and corporate office with planning and implementation of safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT), reinforcing safety culture.
Responsibilities
Recommends and develops educational and training programs/activities in support of Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) programs to minimize the company’s exposure to loss.
Supports corporate and Operating Units Safety, Health and Environmental training to ensure it complies with state and government regulations; identifies new draft state and federal regulations and prepares programs to ensure readiness if approved.
Develops process and procedures to support implementation of the ongoing changes to SHE programs needed from changes in state and federal regulations.
Plans, develops content, assists with implementation and facilitates safety trainings.
Travels to work sites to assists Operating Units in the development, evaluation and upgrading of safety programs.
Maintains required safety files and records, including OSHA logs, etc.
Performs safety surveys and inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
Supports Operating Units in post-accident investigation and prepares report identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management.
Participates and represents the company in industry meetings; interacts with subordinates, supervisors, other agencies and Operating Units to facilitate SHE compliance.
Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of Safety experience
OR
At least 13 years of Safety experience in lieu of education and experience mentioned above
AND
Utility construction or oil & gas industry experience.
Knowledge of federal, state and local safety laws.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering in combination with mentioned above experience.
