JOB SUMMARY
The DCS Digital Analyst is responsible for providing technical and operational expertise for day-to-day support of refinery Distributed Control System (DCS) and the Process Control Network (PCN). Primary responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting DCS and PCN hardware. Additional responsibilities include communicating regularly with system owners/custodians on system reliability/availability improvements and influencing the design/implementation of new hardware associated with refinery capital/expense projects.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Install/upgrade/troubleshoot/maintain Honeywell DCS and PCN hardware
Support 24 hour-a-day, 365 day-per-year refinery operations (must be available for rotational 24/7 on-call, after-hours, and weekend support)
Assess and set priorities for short and long-term actions that can sustain and improve the operation of the DCS/PCN with the most efficient and highest quality work processes.
Communicate regularly and clearly with DCS users (e.g., engineers, console operators, etc.) and global support personnel (site, company-wide, and third party).
Monitor DCS/PCN system performance
Maintain accurate DCS/PCN maintenance-oriented documentation
Assess potential gaps in DCS security or performance and develop gap closure plans, as applicable
Execute required management of change protocols for new and existing DCS/PCN hardware and associated interfaces.
Provide various levels of planning and oversight for contractor work performed on DCS and DCS facilities.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent certificate, preferably enhanced by technical school courses/degree in computer science, electrical or electronics related studies.
Proficiency and comfort level working with 12, 24, and 48 vdc electronic systems
Basic proficiency with personal computers and applications (e.g., Excel, Access, etc.)
High degree of technical ability, objective troubleshooting skills, and ability to communicate clearly
Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
Computer Science or Electrical Technician (or equivalent) certificate, degree, or equivalent work experience
Effective computing skills, including use of Microsoft Office and various databases.
Experience supporting Distributed Control Systems, especially related to Honeywell hardware
Knowledge of communication interfaces and protocols such as Modbus, Allen-Bradley Data Highway, etc.
Knowledge of routers/switches and capable of providing network management
Familiarization with subsystems such as, but not limited to Triconex and Trident, Modicon, GE, and Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs); tank gauging systems, and analyzers.
Experience with installing vendor and Microsoft system patches
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team, demonstrating good communication and interpersonal skills
Sufficient leadership skills to successfully promote ideas and critically analyze proposed designs/work activities.
Minimum of seven years of DCS experience.
