Job Description

Job Summary:

Oversee the performance, maintenance, operation and repair of assigned mechanical equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation of the power plant.  Select and oversee mechanical and related contractors in order to accomplish work not completed by the plant personnel. Oversee and support maintenance, contractor and OEM outage activities.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

Provide technical support, testing and inspection expertise within their assigned process areas to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation.

Optimize station equipment operation to meet key performance indicators
Develop O&M and Capital budgets for assigned process equipment.  Assemble plans and budgets for projects to establish accurate projected cash flows out into the future.
Develop strategic plans for equipment overhauls to optimize equipment life and time between overhauls.  
Develop work scopes, budgets, coordinate and perform outage inspections for all process equipment along with providing input to scheduling.
Utilize predictive and preventative maintenance (PM/PDM) techniques to monitor and improve equipment.  Evaluate and analyze process variables to identify status and trending of key operating parameters.
Conduct root cause analysis of equipment problems and provide recommendations to prevent future incidents.  Assemble equipment failure reports.
Develop, review & revise station procedures & technical instructions and documentation of equipment testing and inspections.
Oversee the engineering, design, economic justification, and specification of parts and materials for projects and station modifications.  Implement projects and process modifications.
Conduct or arrange for training as required associated with processes and equipment.
Use existing monitoring tools such as EDS, PI and APR to identify equipment issues before they become equipment failures. 
Collect, review and maintain equipment reliability data Interface with outside engineering resources as needed.
Optimize the efficiency of existing CBM tools such as PI and SmartSignal Work effectively in a team environment as a leader, member and/or facilitator.
Perform other duties and assignments as required.

Minimum Requirements:

One of the following:

Bachelor of Science in an Engineering Field and a minimum of 2 years of experience working in a power plant or the same role in a similar industry (chemical, industrial, or manufacturing);
or
Associates Degree in a technical field and a minimum of 4 years of experience working in a power plant or the same role in a similar industry (chemical, industrial, or manufacturing);
or
High school diploma and eight years of experience working in a power plant or the same role in a similar industry (chemical, industrial, or manufacturing)
 

Preferred:

Experience running projects or managing contractors.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and control of plant systems and equipment specific to the process area of the position, specifically: boilers and related auxiliary equipment, turbine-generators and related auxiliary equipment, coal pulverizers, and balance-of-plant mechanical systems and equipment.

Overall understanding of power plant systems, operations, and maintenance requirements.
Basic knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations.
Ability to read and understand technical information, print and engineering data, interpret charts, graphs, and gauge scales.
Ability to effectively supervise, train, and direct others (peers, employees, contractors/vendors) in an understandable, clear, and consistent manner
Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment and systems.
Able to use good judgment to accomplish tasks with limited resources.
Ability to complete job tasks with a safety-first mentality.
General knowledge of root cause analysis.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications with particular emphasis on spreadsheet, scheduling, equipment performance, and word processing program
Experience with SAP is preferred.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

This position is a combination of work in office and industrial settings. 

Must be able to wear required personal protection equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, goggles, face shields, hearing protection, respirators, fall protection harnesses, and other PPE as required.

Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. 
Must be able to use computer terminal and keyboard, while potentially sitting for long periods of time.
May be required to perform equipment inspections by climbing vertical ladders in excess of 20 feet and stairways in excess of 50 feet, using step stool, kneeling, bending, walking over uneven surfaces such as loose rock, open grating, and up and down staircases.
May be required to ride in mobile equipment such as booms or scissor lifts to reach heights to inspect equipment.
May be required to enter compartments where equipment is located that can exceed temperatures of 130°F.

May require some domestic travel.
