At Facebook Reality Labs (FRL), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Firmware Engineer Lead to join our team, whose mission is to design, build, and test prototype systems for future consumer VR and AR experiences. We are specifically looking for a candidate with a broad set of experiences, including deep embedded system knowledge, a passion for working on new hardware, and strong technical leadership skills. You are comfortable working with a wide variety of hardware devices, working with a team to rapidly deliver reliable, high performance firmware. The successful candidate will possess experience setting cross-organizational priorities and the ability to work with a team of researchers with tolerance for a high degree of ambiguity. More broadly, the chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

Firmware Engineering Lead Responsibilities

* Lead Firmware Engineering activities and provide technical leadership and guidance to team members

* Collaborate in a team environment across multiple product focused, research, and engineering disciplines, making the architectural tradeoffs required to rapidly deliver firmware solutions

* Develop firmware for consumer devices requiring wireless and wired communication, haptic devices, audio systems, novel display and sensor systems, sensor fusion, signal processing, power management, circuit monitoring/self-test, and precise synchronization

* Understand and implement firmware on micro-controllers, leverage peripherals, manage power consumption, support boot loaders, and schedule real-time tasks (RTOS)

* Build software development processes that allow for rapid development and experimentation while maintaining a high quality product

Minimum Qualifications

* BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field

* 2+ years of experience managing the technical development of firmware and 5+ years of experience on firmware development

* Experience with embedded processors architecture and boot mechanism, interrupt priorities, and configuring peripherals such as USB, SPI, MIPI CSI/DSI, I2C, UART, GPIO, PWM etc.

* Experience with software design and programming in C/C++ for development, debugging, testing and performance analysis

* Experience with Linux/Unix

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with wireless and wired communication protocols, such as USB, TCP/IP, Ethernet, Bluetooth and 802.11

* Experience with hardware debugging, clock-level issues, bridges, delays, interrupts, clock gating, polling, power consumption, etc.

* Experience with device documentation and translate that information into software solutions

* Experience with methods of designing experiments to diagnose embedded hardware and firmware problems

* Experience with EDA design tools and instruction set simulators

* Experience with embedded Linux distributions
