Job Overview:

Macy’s is currently seeking a Media Relations Associate, with 5 – 7 years of experience in public relations, who will work with a team to develop and execute media relations plans to promote Macy’s as a style source delivered by a digitally led omnichannel experience. This includes creating content to promote merchandise and brand launches (style, home and beauty), new store and department openings, services, and more. In addition, the position will maximize corporate giving and cause initiatives, local sponsorships, grants and regional iconic events, showcasing Macy’s as a vital member of the respective community. This role will also work closely with the director to protect the brand through managing issues in partnership with Central and the Regional team.

This person will be an energetic, highly motivated, conscientious and detail-oriented self-starter, who is an experienced strategist with a clear understanding of consumer/business media, excellent writing skills, and strong demonstration of leadership on projects and initiatives that champion the company's business objectives and delivering performance results.

Essential Functions:

Develops and implements short and long-term strategies for major regional programs (national merchandise initiatives, corporate giving/cause-related campaigns, new services and store openings) – ultimately generating positive media coverage.
Establishes strong, productive relationships with traditional and non-traditional media contacts – in respective media markets as well as cultivates strong relationships with all levels of leadership internally and externally (company and store leadership, civic and non-profit partners).
Drafts/edits press materials, manages new media content development and pitches for ongoing placements.
Proactively collaborates and partners with the Corporate Communications and cross functional teams such as merchandising, legal, HR, marketing, government affairs, risk management, and social media. 
Identifies and media-trains regional spokespeople to represent Macy’s in the respective markets.
Leverages Macy’s social handles to develop shareable content and follows local social influencers including reporters that we expect engagement online. 
Recaps media results – weekly, monthly and by project.

Qualifications and Competencies:

BA/BS in communications-related field, with 5-7 years of experience in public relations, media relations, communications or related area.
Fluent in Spanish is a plus.
Innovative, creative, proactive and confident thinker.
Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative.
Effective command of language and writing (communications plans, press materials, executive messaging/presentations, etc.).
Proven history of success in working with/pitching reporters; strong contacts at consumer magazine, newspaper, television and online outlets as well as influencers a plus.
Background in retail or other consumer business; general knowledge of the department store business a plus.
Advanced use of Microsoft Office suite, media monitoring programs and social media channels.
Must be able to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Extensive regional travel involved.
