Role Summary

The Principal Acoustics Engineer will provide technical direction to the acoustics team on community noise assessments and lead acoustic technology maturation efforts for advanced concepts studies. In this role you will also be responsible for leading acoustic tests, advancing computational acoustic modeling capabilities, and developing technical talent within the organization.


Essential Responsibilities

As the Principal Acoustics Engineer, you will:
* Direct and support acoustic audit process for technical programs
* Provide acoustic technical leadership and oversight of engine development programs through noise certification
* Own the vision and technical execution of the acoustic technology roadmap
* Drive innovation in acoustics through computational modeling, process improvements, and experimental activities
* Champion acoustic tools, methods, and process improvements
* Advance state of the art developments as a recognized leader for tools/methods/process improvements, new product introduction activities, Lean waste elimination, and problem resolutions
* Provide acoustic technical guidance, training, and mentoring
* Drive continual process improvement through design practice reviews and revision
* Interface with internal leadership, suppliers, partners, and airframe customers
* Support and help influence environmental rule making and regulatory efforts domestically and internationally
* Coordinate with the Acoustic Chief Consulting Engineer and Manager on technical and program imperatives
* Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company
* Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters
* Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs
* Support other GE businesses, internal and external customers, and suppliers as required

Qualifications/Requirements

* Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
* At least 8 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity

Desired Characteristics

* Advanced technical degree in acoustic sciences
* Minimum of 10 years aircraft community noise certification experience and/or noise mitigation research
* Demonstrated leadership in acoustic computations and testing advancement
* Demonstrated experience leading technical programs / projects in acoustics
* Demonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in at least one technical specialty, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices within this field
* Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage technical programs
* Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
