Job Summary

Provide a safe work environment to a crew of employees responsible for the production of coal at the longwall face and/or outby areas, while complying with state and federal regulations, including company policies. 

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Supervise crew to ensure production goals are being met, this includes setup of employees, safe work practices, and regulatory compliance

Conduct crew safety and informational sharing meetings, to ensure safe practices
Complete daily time records and maintain daily production records
Provide oversight of material delivery to designated work areas; and supervise brattice work, setting posts and roof supports, clean up duties, hanging ventilation curtains, and other associated tasks.
Work closely with the longwall coordinator and maintenance supervisor’s in coordinating scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on the equipment.
Responsible for teaching new employees the correct longwall mining operations
Foster and maintain respectful relationships with all levels of personnel  
Comply with and enforce company policies

EXPERIENCE

3 – 5 years of supervisor experience 

Experience in mine mechanical and maintenance preferred.
Experience in implementing longwall automation systems and BI-directional cutting is a plus.
Experience in Success Factors, SAP and Kronos is a plus.

Role Requirements

Must possess a high school diploma or GED.  Bachelor’s Degree in mining engineering preferred

Minimum 5 years of underground mining operations experience.
Must possess an Alabama Mine Foreman Certification 
Must have a high level of understanding MSHA Regulations
Must have good verbal and written communication skills
Ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs 
Must be willing to work on any assigned shift and on scheduled weekends

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces.

Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time. Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom.
Walking ability will be judged according to SCSR emergency evacuation plan required and approved by MSHA.
Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.
Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine height.
Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.
Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs as well as good hand to eye coordination.
Must have the ability to lift 25 to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 75 pounds.
Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
