Summary

This position is located in the Relay/SCADA area. Responsibilities include programming/coordination, calibration, troubleshooting and repair of relays, metering, communication/control systems as well as other company-owned devices located at ATC substations, power plants, line reclosers, SCADA devices and customer substations. This position performs initial evaluation of all new relay and SCADA devices to ensure proper function prior to start up. Technical support and training to various engineering groups, management and other technical groups will be required. This will also include the development and maintenance of instrument and relay test procedures as well as the integrity of records and stored data. This position is required to perform high potential and fault location tests on various power circuits and related equipment. Other special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned may result in scheduled and unscheduled overtime due to workload and system emergencies. Performance testing, repair, and calibration of relay/SCADA equipment systems, remote terminal unit systems, fault recorders, transducers/meters, certain telecommunications devices and relays that include mechanical, electrical, computer controlled types.

The Technician Electrical-Testing performs the following duties:

Troubleshoot and repair electromechanical, electronic, and computer-based control equipment, relay protection, and regulating equipment.
Responsible for and/or performs the organization, installation of new and accessory substation controls, remote data collection equipment, protection and metering equipment, generator and transformer regulation, high potential tests of associated cables and high voltage equipment.
Makes application and design change decisions, such as errors in control and relay diagrams and wiring and errors in relay settings.
Design test procedures and create test records for the new equipment.
Develops special test equipment necessary for accurate testing of new/modified relay/SCADA systems such as substation emulator used for troubleshooting mis-operations of change-over schemes.
Do performance testing of transmission, distribution, generation protective relay systems.
Performs laboratory analysis on new, prospective, or defective equipment.
Communicate technical results directly to Engineering, System Operations, and manufacturers.
Prepare proper test records, special written reports including compilation of data, maintain system database, making sketches, graphs, and schematic diagrams; initiate print changes to correct errors or document modifications; maintain equipment manuals.
Correct errors in construction prints and document modifications.
Perform design, construction, modification of specialized electrical and electronic test equipment.
Evaluate and make recommendations for purchases of new equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicant must have a two-year associate degree in electronics technology
OR
a minimum of 60 credits of college coursework from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 35 credits in electrical engineering/electronics

Applicant must have a valid drivers license and meet the companys requirements for driving

The applicant must comply with DOT Part 199 pipeline drug and alcohol testing requirements
