Corrosion Technician
A. Job Scope:
Performs annual and periodic corrosion surveys. Maintains cathodic protection equipment and evaluates and documents corrosion conditions of all assigned equipment and pipeline. Position will
be subject to call outs for emergency response and/or work associated with Plains field operations.
B. Job Specifications:
1. Knowledge, Skills, Education and Experience:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to perform basic math. Must be able to read and
comprehend technical operational manuals. Basic entry skills require a general knowledge of AC/ DC electrical properties, a general knowledge of pipeline operations and basic
computer/PC skills. Must be self-directed and work with little to no direct supervision.
2. Certifications and Training:
Must successfully complete: basic corrosion training; Rectifier School; Basic Coatings and
Linings; Cathodic rectifier and grounded design = NACE CP Tester 1 certification.
Must be able to successfully complete Haz-Mat training, safety awareness training and any related required training and certifications.
Must have a valid drivers license.
3. Special Equipment and Tools Used Requiring Application Knowledge:
Must have a basic understanding in the use of multi-meters and related electrical test equipment. Must have working knowledge of; maintenance of half-cells, UT equipment,
cadweld processes, coating evaluations/applications equipment, CPDM, GPS, data loggers,
pipe locators, current interrupters and related testing/diagnostic and pipe protection equipment and processes
4. Interface with Others:
Typically interfaces with personnel from outside companies, as well as internal supervisors, maintenance personnel, control center personnel, and others. Must be able to work
effectively as a team member
Will routinely act as Plains representative in communications with landowners
Will be Plains representative in correcting and mitigating corrosion interference issues with other pipeline companies
5. Physical Demands:
Occasionally lifts or carries moderately heavy equipment or parts and positions them during maintenance activities. May have to work in confined spaces, working and stooping,
kneeling, bending, and walking distances in all types of terrain.
6. Working Conditions:
Works in open environment with extremes of heat and cold, often in proximity to high voltage and/or chemicals, which require safety accommodations such as protective clothing and equipment.
