Your Role and Responsibilities
IBM Research is seeking a Back-End Developer to work at its Research Center in Almaden, CA.
As a Back-End Developer, you will work in an agile, collaborative environment across software architecture, understanding both front-end and back-end concerns, while specializing in the back-end. We work in small, cross-functional teams with big goals, so you will need to be adaptive and adept at clear communication.
* Build robust and scalable back-end software
* Architect and implement systems and APIs
* Create high level code quality through unit tests, automation, and code reviews
* Build a system for scalable, high-performance computation in the cloud
* Build scalable and testable software using modern technologies
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related area is required. This is a long-term supplemental position.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
* 4+ years of experience in back-end development
* 2+ years of NodeJS expertise
* Demonstrated understanding of JavaScript and Typescript
* Expertise with building and using Docker containers, as well as Kubernetes
* Experience architecting complex asynchronous APIs
* Background working with Agile, Lean, and Continuous Delivery approaches, such as Continuous Integration, TDD (Test Driven Development) etc.
* An ability to embrace and reduce uncertainty through continual validated learning
* Proven people skills that contribute to an open and collaborative environment
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
* Experience with creating cloud-native applications and diagnosing problems with them
* Experience with JS libraries such as RXJS and Express preferred
* Experience with database design (relational databases like Postgres) and intermediate level of SQL and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
* Expertise with high performance computing (HPC)
