Scope of Position:

* Supporting early stage manufacturing (both process and equipment) to meet customer make-to-print orders involving high precision electro-optical assemblies and components.
* Creation of routers defining the manufacturing process for precision housings, lenses, mirrors and/or assemblies.
* Interpreting customer quality requirements and capturing necessary data during the manufacturing process through instruction within the router, the creation of data sheets and FAI documents
* Supporting or leading continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions and cost reduction projects using lean six sigma practices
* Working with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineering related problems

Day to Day Responsibilities:

* Provide problem solving support to production operations
* Use meticulous processes and technical knowledge to build detailed technical understanding for key process steps and document through the creation of SOPs, Job Aids, and Assembly Instructions.
* Assure safety of operators and equipment and follow safety and environmental regulations
* Function as a team member and/or team leader on focused projects
* Trouble shoot material, process and equipment issues, identify root causes and implement corrective actions
* Implement and document material, process and/or equipment changes
* Use statistical tools and Designed Experiments (DOE) in process problem solving and process improvement
* Assure quality and repeatability of processes and products
* Support new product introductions through equipment upgrades, process validation, documentation and training

Hours of work:

* 40 hrs. M-F, business hours; Flexible hours may be required to support off-hours experimentation/operations on weekends and evenings

Education & Experience:

* We require a minimum of an AS in Engineering (Materials, Mechanical, Industrial or equivalent)
* We are seeking 1-3 years of manufacturing experience
* Strong technical fundamentals with process engineering skills
* Able to handle multiple complex tasks and set priorities
* Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions
* Able to communicate and present results to both internal and external customers
* Creative/innovative problem solving
* Strong data analysis and interpretation skills
* Basic knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC) methodology

Desired Skills:

* Knowledge of reflective and refractive optics
* Multi-axis machine tool knowledge and programming skills
* Knowledge of Diamond Turning and Polishing
* Six Sigma Green Belt trained
* Process development
* AutoCAD and tool design experience

Soft Skills:

* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Personal initiative, commitment and desire to learn
* Organized with good planning and time management skills
* Ability to build relationships within multi-functional groups; team building skills
* Positive attitude, flexible, and good work ethic
