Northrop Grumman Space Systems is searching for an experienced Principal/Sr. Principal Engineer Systems - Material Engineer Radiation Effects to join the SEI amp;T Speciality Engineering team within Launch Vehicles business unit located in Chandler, AZ.

The candidate will play a key role in support of new strategic missile development efforts within the Specialty Engineering group. Projects entail hardening launch vehicle structures and avionics to the effects of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation forms, effects of direct and indirect lightning, as well as EMP.

The incumbent will possess concise written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical and problem solving skills. Formal presentation experience with material processing and material qualification reviews as well as experience with launch vehicle material property testing, material extreme environment testing and material process qualification. Experience with warm X-ray test coordination, execution and analysis. Evaluating new materials and processes for advanced aerospace applications. Should have a broad background of modern and traditional materials amp; processes (circuit board fab, 3d printing, machining, molding) and familiar with metalurgics, material compounding, thermoplastics, epoxies, printed amp; printable materials (plastics amp; printable added materials including metals). Familiar with lab testing equipment (SEM, XRF, cross sectioning, instrons etc). Material properties knowledge (metals, plastics, composites, laminates). Processes including soldering, bonding, molding, laminating, machining, composite layups (and commensurate equipment to accomplish these fabrication techniques). Develop and qualify materials; develop procurement specifications and vendor process requirements. Good at statistical data analysis of test results of material properties, familiar with machining specifications, and inspection equipment (both traditional and modern)

This position may be offered at the Princ Engrineer Systems Level 3 or may be offered at the Sr. Principal Engineer Systems Level 4.

Qualification

Basic Qualifications:

If offered at the Principal Engineer Systems Level 3 requires:

5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.

U.S. Citizenship is required.

Ability to obtain a secret security clearance is required.

Ability to travel 10% is required.

If offered at the Sr. Principal Engineer Systems Level 4 requires

9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.

U.S. Citizenship is required.

Ability to obtain a secret security clearance is required.

Ability to travel 10% is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

A broad experience base in man-made radiation effects, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation forms is desirable. Knowledge of non-ionizing radiation effects particularly at high E-M field strength, direct and indirect lighting effects, as well as HEMP/EMP forms is preferred. Broad knowledge and experience of test methods, data reduction and analysis for ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, EPM and lighting protection is preferred.
