Food Scientist, Plant Protein Applications

Job Description

Ingredion is hiring an experienced Plant Protein Applications Scientist to lead and support multiple New Product Development and Applied Research Projects related to development of plant-based protein solutions. The Scientist will design and conduct experiments, collaborate with external partners and internal teams to execute projects, seek, pursue opportunities for IP, and drive new business growth. You will be responsible for transferring fundamental technical knowledge in plant-based protein into ingredient applications and formulation know-how and build Plant Based protein technical excellence and thought leadership within the organization.

Core responsibilities:

* Serving as key global application technical lead for identification, development, evaluation, and commercialization of new ingredients derived from pulses or other plant-based proteins.
* Providing ongoing technical expertise and thought leadership to customers, Global Applications teams and regional technical teams
* Developing industry relationships and networks with professional organizations (IFT, etc.) and experts in specific science and technology areas of interest.
* Designing and conducting experiments to explore the potential application of new and existing ingredients from pulses or other plant-based proteins.
* Interpreting data to understand relationships between structure/function and applications performance.
* Providing status updates, project plans & key milestones and outcomes to team and key stakeholders.
* Working with Applications, Marketing and Technical Service Teams to formulate and demonstrate the value of our pulse products to customers
* Working collaboratively with other cross-functional teams including Process Innovation, Process Development, Cereal Science, Plant Protein R&D, Sensory and System Design & Measurement to identify, develop, evaluate and commercialize new ingredients derived from pulses or other plant-based proteins.
* Preparing and delivering high quality internal and external training documentations, presentations, and technical documentation to demonstrate and communicate product performance and Ingredion capabilities.
* Proactively seeking and pursuing IP opportunities to protect Ingredions stake in new and promising ingredients and applications.
* Staying abreast of technology environment (established & emerging technologies, market trends, IP landscape). Conducting prior art searches (literature, patents) and developing and applying for patents.

Qualified candidates will have:

* PhD in Food Science or other relevant field with 3+ years of relevant work experience in product formulation, prototype development, pulse ingredient development, or, MS in Food Science with 5-8+ years of relevant work experience.
* Proven in-depth knowledge of plant-based flours and plant protein chemistry, as well as protein isolate processing
* Demonstrated experience and skills in project management and project ownership across the life-cycle of a project, from conception to completion.
* Demonstrated ability to drive new product innovation to commercial success.
* Proven in-depth knowledge in food and beverage formulations and processes
* Demonstrated ability to translate fundamental technical knowledge about plant-proteins into applications know-how
* Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with cross-functional teams.
* Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills e.g. making high impact presentations internally, to customers and leadership.
* Demonstrated experience with designing experiments and statistical data analysis for the appropriate interpretation of results.
* Travel required to visit customers, run tests at external facilities, and visit other Ingredion facilities globally.
