Research Scientist, Fiber Development

Job Description

The Research Scientist position will provide research and product development for soluble fiber/bulking agents in the sugar reduction space. Responsibilities will include identification of target compositions, technologies for the preparation of these compositions, and expertise in the functions and performance of bulking agents for sugar reduction. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary, science-based research group and will collaborate with chemists, engineers, and business professionals to commercialize critical food-based ingredients.

Core Responsibilities:

* Work with cross-functional teams to identify and progress fiber/bulking agents research from concept to commercialization
* Serve as subject matter expert on function and performance of fiber/bulking agents
* Identify and address potential interactions of target compositions with high potency sweeteners and other ingredients to enhance safety and stability of products
* Use scientific methods and validated data to guide investigations
* Create, test, and protect new inventions that support strategic objectives.
* Monitor and interpret the intellectual property and other external publications in the field and adjusts experimental plan to leverage insights and/or mitigate threats.
* Develop and refine the value propositions of new ingredients
* Plan, budget, execute, and report on projects and programs
* Use project management tools to ensure efficient execution of investigations and other activities.
* Create and maintain relationships critical to the success of sugar reduction activities.
* Build and maintain effective working relationships critical to the success of research activities. Work with both internal and external customers to help facilitate effective communication of business information.
* Interface with Regulatory team to ensure safety and regulatory compliance of products.

Qualified candidates will have:

* Advanced degree in Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Food Science or other related disciplines (PhD or Masters) preferred with 6-9+ years of relevant industry experience conducting research and development in the sugar reduction, non-caloric bulking agent (soluble fiber) field. Bachelors degree with significant experience also considered
* Demonstrated ability to design and execute scientific research projects in the sugar reduction space.
* Solid project management skills with an ability to manage multiple projects/assignments simultaneously and complete tasks accurately and on a timely basis.
* Ability to troubleshoot and respond proactively
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information to internal and external customers (both domestic and international) in a clear, focused, and concise manner.
* Excellent organization, communication, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills with ability to work in both virtual and laboratory settings
* Ability to drive for results and work within appropriate guardrails and time/resource constraints. Can anticipate needs and advance projects and workflows.
* Proficiency in use of IT tools for communication (e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.) and data collection/analysis (e.g. instrumentation software, MiniTab, etc.)
