This job is located in Omaha, NE and has a starting salary of $48K. The Operations Management Test Battery (OMTB) is required for this position.
Responsible for prioritizing, leading, coordinating, and documenting critical railroad incidents and police emergencies! The employee will collect information from the reporting party, multiple databases including train management systems and mapping software, and disseminating this information to local emergency responders (police, fire, ambulance) and company responders (UP Police, Risk Management, Safety, Environmental and Shipment Quality, etc.). Providing both initial notification and complete critical incident updates are crucial to appropriate partners.
Accountabilities
Responsible for phone calls involving a variety of emergency and non-emergency incidents including criminal activity (theft, vandalism, trespassing, etc.), non-critical incidents (blocked or rough crossings, idling equipment, vegetation concerns, etc.), preventative incidents (vehicles on railroad tracks, reported problems with tracks or bridges, etc.), and critical incidents (fires, derailments, collisions, etc.)
Respond timely to all incoming phone calls, conduct a thorough interview to obtain all necessary information, issue appropriate notifications to internal and external customers, and document all details of the incident
Handle multiple incidents in progress simultaneously through the use of multi-tasking, critical thinking, and prioritization, maintaining a focus on protecting the safety of employees and the general public
Coordinate the emergency response of local emergency responders (police, fire, ambulance) and UP responders (UP Police, Risk Management, Hazmat, etc.) to critical incidents that occur on railroad property
Coordinate track protection requirements with train management to ensure the safety of emergency responders, employees, and the general public, while placing a focus on the resumption of train operations at the conclusion of the incident
Issue appropriate notification of critical incidents to city, county, state, and federal regulatory agencies within government time requirements to ensure a coordinated response and reduce company liability
Complete detailed documentation of incidents to meet federal and legal standards for use in critical incident investigation and potential litigation against the Company, to include collection of evidence preservation
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required
A high school diploma or Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED)
Proficient problem solving skills
Ability to speak English in a clear, concise manner to communicate with coworker(s) and supervisor(s)
Able to understand and apply safety rules, practice safe work habits, identify safety risks and avoid potentially risky behaviors and situations
Analytical and detail oriented
Able to demonstrate effective listening and critical thinking skills
Efficient with multi-tasking and able to adapt to evolving situations in a fast-paced environment
Proficient (40 words per minute) typing skills
Preferred
