Position Description: Experience the personal challenge of working for a world class organization and leader in the Utilities and Energy industry as a Journeyman Lineman/Linewoman in the Overhead Underground Lines Department and or Distribution Operations Department for our Long Island New York territory.
Sign on bonus available for qualified applicants who successfully complete the pre-employment process and meet the time requirement for bonus eligibility.
Duties include (but not limited to):
* Performing all types of line work on energized overhead and underground distribution and transmission lines in all voltage classifications. Investigating, locating and repairing faults on distribution and transmission lines in all voltage classifications. Making all types of standard connections, phasing out, paralleling circuits and making electrical tests on voltage classifications.
* Performing all types of switching on distribution and transmission circuits, operating circuit breakers and other equipment in substations as required.
* Operate various types of line vehicles and equipment such as bucket trucks, jib-boom and portable transformer trucks.
* Responsible for truck stock and additional material or equipment required to perform work.
* Reading and interpreting overhead and underground work order prints, construction standards, wiring diagrams, circuit maps, transformer connections and distribution equipment wiring diagram.
* Be familiar with the various types of service and meter connections as they apply to the work.
* Analyze, maintain and repair all types of distribution equipment such as re-closures, vacuum switches, capacitor controls, load break switches, etc.
* Meeting the customers and the public in a pleasant, tactful manner and performing the duties in such a manner as to ensure good public relations.
* Being thoroughly familiar with the Companys general rules for the operation of the electric system as it applies to the work.
* May be assigned to various special schedule shifts and schedules on a rotating basis as required by work load.
* Performing similar or less skilled work as may be assigned.
* Qualified Candidates may be offered an opportunity to fill openings in OH/UG Lines &/or Service Section.
* As an employee of (PSE&G or PSEG LI), you should be aware that during storm restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions outside of your routine duties and on a schedule that may be different from normal operations.
Education and Qualifications:
Required:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Applicants need to have successfully completed a recognized apprentice program and be a first class journeyman lineperson.
* Must possess a valid drivers license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.
* A valid Class A Commercial Driving License (CDL) is preferred but a valid Class B CDL candidate (21 years or older) will be considered and must prepare for and pass the Class A CDL driving test within the first year of employment.
* Applicants must pass the Physical, Craft and Technical (PCT) Placement Examination, External Hire Physical Assessment, DOT Physical Examination, and Background investigation/Drug Screening.
* Applicants selected for this position will be expected to work overtime in accordance with departmental requirements.
* Required to participate in federally mandated drug testing programs prior to selection, randomly on a year round basis, after an accident and for reasonable cause.
* Certifications and licenses must be presented at the PCT Testing appointment.

Internally, Public Service consolidated its gas and electric interests into Public Service Electric and Gas, and its transportation interests into Public Service Coordinated Transport (later Transport of New Jersey). Concerns about the concentration of economic power resulted in federal and state actions requiring the breakup of utilities. In 1943, Public Service once again became a stand-alone company, and was renamed Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) in 1948
PSEG as 100 People
PSEG has 13,000 employees across multiple states representing varied backgrounds and expertise. But could you conceptualize what a snapshot of PSEG would look like as just 100 people? That’s just what the PSEG Foundation set out to do when it partnered with the 100 People Foundation.
Using the 100 People Foundation philosophy and methodology, we set out to meet the 100 people who could best represent our company. The result was a diverse group of employees who helped create a community that represents PSEG by job type and companywide statistics. Employees from varied positions, levels and tenure were nominated by their peers as the people they most admire.
Some of the employees chosen to help represent PSEG as 100 people served in the military, where they learned about great teamwork, or are the third generation of their family to work for PSEG.
