A position has arisen for a Quality Engineer within Collins Aerospace in Cheshire, CT. Reporting directly to the site Quality Manager, this position will be key in monitoring and leading Quality and Continuous Improvement activities and in representing the Quality function with customers.

The role requires an individual capable of working collaboratively with the operations leaders as part of an Integrated Product Team (IPT) in the value stream. Supporting functional groups to implement process improvements through application of appropriate tools, to drive positive change within the company culture. Resulting in measurable improvements via reduction of COPQ (cost of poor quality) and productivity process improvements.

A positive attitude drive for continuous improvement and ensuring the voice of the customer is represented at all times are essential for this role. Candidates should be confident, self-motivated, work well within a team and have the ability to communicate and work at all levels within the business.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Promote the Quality culture in the business, through compliance to the QMS, requirements of AS9100 and adherence to Quality Cardinal Rules

* Work closely with Operations to ensure product meets requirements and provide guidance in all matters related to Quality Management

* Immediately address quality issues, notifying relevant personnel and ensuring appropriate containment actions are in place to prevent customer escapes.

* Drive problem resolution through to completion for customer SCARs and internal escapes. Ensuring key milestones are met, i.e. Containment, Root Cause Analysis, Mistake Proofing.

* Utilizes PPAP core elements (PFMEA, MSA, Process Flow and Control Plans, etc.) to identify risks and propose mitigation solutions.

* Manage the creation of customer FAI package submissions

* Participate in contract review, ensuring customer specific requirements are understood and effectively communicate throughout the business

* Manage Change Control Activities through to completion including production permits and concessions (deviations)

* Maintain reports, databases and assists with the management of the QMS including: customer scorecards, corrective actions, manufacturing dashboards and CPI project tracker, updating weekly and monthly quality reports as required.

* Participate in customer calls and coordinate / host 2nd party (customer) visits and site audits

* Plan and execute internal audits to AS9100 requirements. Publish audit reports in accordance with company procedures

* Understands and communicate the voice of the customer (externally and internally) in decisions affecting quality and performance.

* Work with functional groups to help internal customers define and establish quality and process improvements

* Participate in document reviews and provide constructive feedback to document authors

* Ability to communicate and work at all levels within the business

Basic Qualifications:

* Bachelors degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR

* Advance degree and 3 years of relevant experience OR

* In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required

* Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident Green Card holder

Preferred Qualifications:

* Previous aerospace/aviation AS9100 industry experience is desirable.

* Minimum 3 years of experience of working in Quality Management.

* Basic knowledge of business management systems ERP / MRP (SAP), configuration tools etc.

* Previous customer facing Quality role, such as hosting customer visits and audits.

* Negotiating with customers to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

* Strong analytical skills with a bias towards attention to detail. Including use of analytical software (such as Minitab).

* Must be able to read and understand data reports to analyze opportunities for improvement.

* Must be able to read and understand blueprints / engineering drawings

* Ability to work under pressure while maintaining poise and tact in dealing with quality issues.

* Depth of knowledge for AIS Cheshire products & processes is desirable.

* Competent in the use of common IT software including Microsoft Word / Excel / Access databases and SharePoint
