Job Description

Facebook Reality Labs Research (FRL Research) brings together a world-class R&D team of researchers, developers, and engineers with the shared goal of developing AR and VR across the spectrum. The Surreal group at FRL Research is seeking exceptional research scientists to solve the next generation of research challenges on the path to building future machine perception enabled technologies. As a Research Scientist, your role is to co-optimize power, performance, and privacy of machine perception algorithms in resource constrained environments. This involves interacting with research scientists of different disciplines and finding solutions that can be deployed on wearable devices.

Research Scientist, Machine Perception (PhD) Responsibilities

* Research, develop and prototype advanced tightly integrated software and hardware technologies in the domain of computer vision and machine learning.

* Analyze and improve privacy, security, efficiency, accuracy, scalability, and stability of currently deployed systems.

* Collaborate with team members throughout the lifetime of a project, from simulation and prototyping to deployed devices and products.

* Deliver research results that have a direct impact on Facebook and Oculus products.

Minimum Qualifications

* Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in the field of computer science, engineering, or equivalent.

* Background in computer architecture, embedded systems, secure computing, and privacy.

* Experience with SW/HW co-design and custom silicon implementation of machine learning and computer vision algorithms.

* Experience understanding, developing, and analyzing complex systems.

* Experience working on multidisciplinary projects.

* Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.

* Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualifications

* Background in C++.

* Background in SML.

* Experience with SLAM systems.

* Experience working in a Linux environment.

* Broad understanding of the full machine vision pipeline from sensors to high-level algorithms.

* Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences.
