As Manager of Mainframe Services, you will be responsible for Vanguard's Mainframe environment, including managing critical enterprise vendors, projects to maintain the infrastructure, key controls and performance and capacity planning for the platform. Additionally, this job will be responsible for continuing to improve the resiliency and recoverability of the ecosystem in support of the business and Vanguards clients.

In this role, you will:

* Lead staff. Provide guidance, training and motivation as necessary to develop staff. Hires, evaluates and counsels personnel. Set challenging performance standards, reviews performance, provides feedback, and recommends wage increases in accordance with Human Resources policies and procedures.
* Develop and establish standards & procedures and assign work to the engineering staff.
* Lead the analysis, design, and deployment, of IT software and hardware systems supporting the business.
* Work closely with the IT management team and business units to ensure alignment with the companys objectives.
* Lead and leverage technical skills to effectively and efficiently manage mainframe technologies and personnel, as well as utilize knowledge of and experience with data center engineering and operations across the network, server, storage and end user technology stacks.
* Plan, develop, and execute, short and long range goals/strategies to meet department, divisional and corporate objectives.
* Develop strong working relationships with internal clients and peers. Negotiates head count, project budget, and major deliverables. Coordinate activities across teams.
* Establish, communicate, and drive, continuous improvement of key performance, quality and client satisfaction metrics.
* Own and maintain strong control environment to manage operational risks and meet regulatory requirements.
* Collaborate with architecture team to develop and maintain standards for infrastructure technologies.
* Manage the evaluation, selection and ongoing performance of IT vendor products and services, including contracting/consulting resources and managed services.
* Design, develop, and maintain, departmental budget. Manage expense and ensure department operates within budgetary guidelines.
* Maintains expertise and awareness of industry trends and technologies; making timely adjustments to strategies as appropriate.
* Hire, evaluate, and lead crew. Provide guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Set performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.

What it takes:

* Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.
* Minimum 10 years of experience designing/supporting Mainframe Systems with 5 years management experience desired.
* Demonstrated ability to develop and lead high performing teams.
* Financial Services or technical experience preferred. Previous people-leadership experience preferred.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, including interviewing and presentation skills.
* Strong relationship management, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
* Broad knowledge of the financial services industry.
* Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and/or projects concurrently.
* Flexibility, strong decision making skills and effective time management skills.
* Minimum of five years related work experience. Two years of managing a project preferred.

Technical Experience:

* Preferred experience with z/OS DB2 TSO JCL and managing mainframe systems.
* Current generation z/Mainframes
