Job Description
The Protein Engineering group in Rahway, New Jersey is seeking a Senior Scientist to expand our capabilities in microfluidic technologies for drug discovery and development. The mission of the Protein Engineering group is to engineer enzymes for use as biocatalysts to synthesize APIs and to engineer proteins and peptides as biotherapeutics. We leverage computational modeling, advanced automation, and high-throughput screening. We are committed to developing new technologies that enhance protein engineering and improve human health. To forward these goals, we are establishing a microfluidics team that will build on our previous success in developing microfluidics technologies to enable protein engineering.
The microfluidics team will be tasked with advancing microfluidics-based tools and methodologies for application to high-throughput and bench-top automation. The primary focus of this team will be the development of ultra-high throughput protein engineering and discovery workflows for direct impact on pipeline projects. Expertise in microfluidics, microelectromechanical (MEMS) device engineering, and protein engineering are highly desired.
As a member of the microfluidics team, the incumbent is expected to carry out independent research which involves conceiving, designing, planning, and implementing advanced studies aimed at further establishing microfluidics based experimental methodologies. A high level of innovation, creativity, and self-initiative along with the ability to plan and execute technically sound experiments are expected. The incumbent must have excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills and exhibit strength in delivering results on firm deadlines.
Minimum Requirements:
* PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Synthetic Biology or a related field.
* 4+ years of industry experience
Preferred Experience and Skills:
* Established subject matter expertise in one or more of the following topical areas:
* Directed Evolution, Metabolic engineering, Protein structure and function
* High-throughput and Bench-top Automation
* Microfluidics for digital biology
* Microfluidics Modeling and Simulation Experience with Multiphysics and CAD modeling
* Strong technical/problem solving skills including chemical engineering fundamentals
* A strong interest in process/technology development and laboratory automation
* A high level of innovation, creativity, and self-initiative
* Excellent planning and organizational skills
* Excellent communication skills
