Honeywell Aerospace Materials Engineering (MatEng) is seeking a materials design and special process engineer. This position is at the Hardware Engineer II level and will be based at the Deer Valley site in Phoenix, Arizona. The successful candidate will function as a growing technical leader and resource in providing specialized engineering expertise to support site-focused (i.e. Deer Valley) and cross-site (e.g. other Aerospace sites, such as Glendale, AZ, Clearwater, FL, Toronto, ON) program design activity, including material and process selection, customer reviews, specification writing, and contract deliverables. The successful candidate will also be expected to have an immediate impact as an electronics process expert, including technical problem solving, project leadership, and special process supplier audits
Key Responsibilities
* Ability to provide direct support to program design activity, including material and process selection, completing customer deliverables (i.e. material and process analysis and test reports), and technical problem-solving during development, qualification, and production phases.
* Ability to review customer- and Honeywell-generated requirements to ensure cost effective approaches and to verify performance and environmental requirements are met.
* Ability to develop and execute material and process evaluation test plans (e.g. flammability, fungus, hazardous materials).
* Ability to provide program / customer interface and communications to assure clarity and confidence for all projects, actions and deliverables.
Ability to function as the primary technical interface for materials and process-related issues for specific programs, and the ability to engage other technical materials and process experts for problem solving where assistance may be needed.
* Ability to provide technical expertise to support Aero special process teams and team activities, including supplier technical process audits and technical problem solving, especially for electronics (e.g. soldering, conformal coating, cable/wire harness assembly).
* Ability to deploy technical expertise in generation, review and maintenance of site, Aero and industry specifications.
* Ability to perform failure analysis, determine root cause and appropriate corrective actions, and implement corrective actions.
* Ability to apply six sigma tools in the failure analysis process including development and implementation of design of experiments (DOE's).
* Ability to provide technical support and leadership of special projects related to materials obsolescence, product / process improvement, technology development, etc.
* Ability to perform trade studies to evaluate suitability, reliability, and failure characteristics of materials and assemblies.
YOU MUST HAVE
* Bachelors degree in Engineering or Applied Science
* Minimum 3 years of engineering experience working directly in Materials and Process engineering design and applications roles.
* Direct experience with electronics processes (e.g. soldering, conformal coating, cable/wire harness assembly).
* Must be a US citizen due to contractual requirements.
