Job Description

Solutia, Inc., a subsidiary of Eastman Chemical Company, a leading manufacturer of film interlayer products, has an immediate opening for a Safety Representative for its Health, Safety, Environmental & Security Organization at its Springfield, MA location. The Safety Representative is responsible for ensuring that our employees, contractors, and visitors enjoy high levels of safety, health while maintaining regulatory / corporate compliance and RC-14001 conformance.

Responsibilities:

* Actively promote & drive the corporate safety vision of a Zero Incident Culture through fostering a Zero Incident Mindset, including but not limited to, employee safety observations, hazard recognition / blind-spot programs, and other employee engagement activities
* Manage policies, procedures, programs and databases consistent with Federal, State and Company requirements
* Execute safety-related training curriculum development and presentations associated with company policies, OSHA requirements, new employee safety orientations, routine safety training and crew huddles
* Manage safety supply vendor and facilitate obtaining appropriate materials for the selection and maintenance of safety and personal protective equipment
* Facilitate safety inspections/audits of various safety programs
* Facilitate and maintain job hazard analyses
* Lead and/or participate in incident investigations as required. Maintain site incident log, and open incident management database
* Provide safety consultation and Life Critical 6 program leadership for site operations
* Facilitate site Management of Change process, including safety risk assessment evaluations of new or modified equipment
* Drive the Responsible Care 14001 HSES management system through Health and Safety aspects and impacts, planning, metrics, and management review
* Manage employee health policies and initiatives, including but not limited to injury management, accident investigations and corrective action plans to minimize the effect of injuries on the employee and the company incident rate metrics
* Lead Industrial Hygiene (IH) planning and monitoring for production employees
* Provide leadership to safety team meetings and/or auxiliary projects.
* Lead the site contractor management program, facilitate contractor participation with site safety requirements, as well as conduct additional contractor safety orientations for shutdowns and outside contract work, as necessary.
* Respond to corporate HSES requests as necessary

Qualifications:

* Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Process Safety or other related technical discipline
* 5+ years of experience in related industrial / manufacturing HSE role or process engineering is preferred.
* OSHA 10-Hr and 30-Hr General Industry Training Certification preferred
* CSP / CIH certification preferred
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Strong technical / analytical skills, the ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities and the ability to work in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere
* Strong initiative, focus and follow-through skills
* Strong computer skills in standard office software programs
* Effective organization and planning skills
* Mechanical aptitude
* Ability to adapt to different cultural environments
