Job Description

The Role:

As a Senior Packaging Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and commercializing new packaging formats that meet our customer guidelines and rapidly changing consumer behaviors. You will report to the Packaging Manager on the grocery platform, with an opportunity to work on multiple packaging categories such as steel and aluminum cans, rigid resin, flexible resin, glass, labels and corrugate. You will lead the technical delivery of multiple types of projects including innovation, cost savings and business continuity. As a packaging engineer at Conagra, you will work in an inclusive environment that encourages creativity and strong working relationships with teams across the Conagra and external network.

What You'll Do:

* Independently lead the technical delivery of multiple projects from conception through commercialization.
* Identify right-sized and right-format packaging for important brands within our grocery platform, including Chef Boyardee, Hunt's, P.F. Chang's, Frontera, Mrs. Butterworth's and Vlasic.
* Highly engaged in working directly with business counterparts (brand, finance, sales) and technical counterparts (manufacturing, supply chain) on projects.
* Work with Demand Sciences (Insights & Analytics) and brand teams to develop understanding of consumer purchasing behaviors.
* Execute experiments and plant trials; prepare results in technical reports and presentations for review.
* Have understanding and application of experimental design, performance-based specifications and qualification design principles.
* Interpret and develop technical specifications.
* Maintain high awareness of competitor and adjacent trends within the packaging industry.
* Provide necessary leadership to designated business groups to resolve packaging issues.
* Gain familiarity with fiscal and strategic plans of team.
* Be aware of project tasks and how they affect the project budget.
* Acquire working knowledge of the packaging principles and operating systems within the packaging organization.
* Cultivate and foster relationships with external partners, including suppliers and customers.

What You'll Bring:

* Bachelor's Degree in Packaging, Engineering or related field.
* 5+ years' work experience in packaging or engineering industry.
* Ability to work in an agile and evolving environment during concept ideation and development.
* Curiosity and passion to design for changing consumer behavior.
* Solid (and growing) understanding of packaging material capabilities and packaging equipment interactions.
* Knowledge of test methodology and practical application.
* Analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
* Financial understanding to increase profitability.
* Ability to travel up to 20 - 40% of time. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible Conagra Brands representative.
