Job Summary:
Under direction of the Process Technician, the HME Operator is responsible for carrying out all duties and responsibilities of production, sanitation, maintenance, process order closing, adherence to standard work, daily direction setting, daily management systems, and equipment ownership. The HME Operator is responsible to work with other employees as a team for all areas of the plant, but HME Operators are specifically responsible for operating and maintaining equipment in the HME area. The HME Operator will rotate through different functions of work in the process area on a regular and frequent basis. This position will report to and is assigned to a scheduled crew.

Under the direction of the Process Technician, the HME Operator may perform the following activities:
* Production
* Accurately weighs liquid and dry powder ingredients per requisitions and labels containers correctly with material and batch identification.
* Prepares batches in accordance with production scheduling and SAP.
* Checks and changes lot codes on all ingredients as needed.
* Maintains accurate documentation in accordance with plant standard work.
* Produces product in accordance with all quality testing and requirements.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
* Sanitation
* Performs and completes area environments, verifies and reacts to cleanliness levels.
* Performs CIP process cleaning, ensuring proper sanitation SOPs and effective titration in accordance to standard work.
* Conduct microbial testing (i.e. swabs).
* Adhere to all established sanitation SOPs and proper documentation of sanitation effectiveness including, but not limited to, weekly and master sanitation checklists and titration paperwork.
* Maintenance
* Performs all weekly PMs as assigned with focus, but not limited to, 1-2 week preventative maintenance.
* Performs all maintenance on all equipment, with special emphasis as subject matter expert on gums tank, holding tank, totes, floor scales, metal detectors, hap-man auger, and hot water set.
* Ability to perform substantial preventative maintenance and minor equipment breakdown maintenance.
* Ability to enter maintenance information in SAP (i.e. work orders, close out time, complete purchase request, etc.)
* Other maintenance duties as assigned.
* Process Orders
* Ability to locate materials in SAP (i.e. LX02) and scan to and from locations.
* Ability to consume materials to current process order (i.e. ZCO60)
* Adhere to proper methods for locating, moving, consuming, and returning partial quantities per standard procedures in SAP.
* Standard Work, 5S
* Responsible for properly filling out all standard documents (i.e. HACCP, SSOP, Sanitation Paperwork, Shift Hand-off Sheets, Batch Sheets)
* Responsible for overall organization and cleanliness of HME area, including 5S programs.
* Daily Direction Setting
* Responsible for participating daily in DDS.
* Accountable for action items assign and prompt follow-up on tasks assigned.
* Daily Management Systems
* Responsible for DMS as assigned, with special emphasis on centerline, clean / inspect / lubricate, and safety work-streams.
* Demonstrate forward looking mindset on DMS, constantly looking for opportunities to improve effectiveness of the management system.
* Equipment Ownership
* Subject matter expert on equipment as assigned, with special emphasis on gums tanks, holding tanks, floor scales, totes, metal detectors, hap-man auger, and hot water set.
* Ability to perform all maintenance (breakdown and preventative) on equipment assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
* Two-year technical degree (i.e. documented training/education in areas of power distribution, instrumentation, basic pneumatics, drives, servos, basic hydraulics, blueprint reading, and PLC control); OR technical training in the military; OR seven years documented work experience in skills noted above plus high school diploma or equivalent; OR completion of plants Technician-in-Training program.
* Experience with personal computers, programs, and data entry.
* Demonstrate the ability to read, write, and comprehend English as it relates to job tasks.
* Plan, organize, and schedule work independently.
* Ability to communicate effectively and develop rapport with internal and external customers.
* Comprehend and use technical vendor manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
* Ability to read and use instrumentation (temperature, pressure, etc.)
* Knowledge of pneumatics/hydraulics, motors/drives/gearboxes/power transmission systems.
* Demonstrated ability to read and understand blueprints and process instrumentation drawings.
* Demonstrated ability to use tools including precision, hand, and powered.
* Consistently identify, track, and resolve enhancements to work procedures or methods.
* Ability to train others.
* Forklift and pallet jack operation.
* Reacts and communicate appropriately to all safety, quality, and operational issues.
* Effectively participates in shift handoffs
Physical Demands:
* Position works in a manufacturing environment. Job incumbent must be able to work in areas that are hot or cold, surfaces may be slippery, climb ladders/stairs, or work in tight quarters.
* Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
* The work environment is a production facility with moderate noise levels.
* Ability to hear and respond to audible alarms and signals.
