R&D Engineer II Maple Grove, MN

About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an R&D Engineer II supporting Structural Heart projects within the Interventional Cardiology division. Structural Heart is an exciting growth driver for BSC. This role will utilize a variety of new and proven technologies to deliver life-changing medical devices to patients and clinicians in support of BSCs mission. This role supports a major product line with high visibility which will provide the right candidate with excellent growth potential.

The R&D role will be a key team member in developing new devices & technology for our left atrial appendage occlusion franchise. The role will include researching available literature, leveraging physician expertise and previous industry experience to formulate a portfolio investment strategy. These investments in new technology will drive a robust pipeline for left atrial appendage occlusion that will keep BSC in a market leadership position.

Your responsibilities include:

* Create a strong team culture around high expectations & high performance
* Facilitate crisp decision making around key technical issues
* Lead technology integration & knowledge transfer within domain of responsibility
* Provide clear communication to stakeholders at key technical updates
* Leverage internal/external partners as necessary to achieve project objectives
* Lead the design & execution of structured experimental plans to drive data based decisions
* Understand anatomy, clinical use cases and user interface requirements to drive design decisions.
* Develop novel improvements to products or processes resulting in expansion of BSCs Intellectual Property portfolio in key strategic areas.
* Successfully completes engineering work in one or more of the following: technology development, product design and development, test method development, specification development, bench & preclinical studies.
* Assess the feasibility and soundness of alternative engineering processes, products, or equipment.
* Interface with Physicians/Cath Lab personnel to obtain feedback on concepts and performance of new devices.
* Translates customer needs into product requirements and design specifications.
* Works cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing on complex projects to ensure project success.
* May train and/or provide work direction to technicians and entry-level engineers.

What were looking for:

Minimum Qualifications

* BS in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science or related technical degree
* Required minimum years of work experience (primarily in medical device or related field): 2 years of in engineering or research and development role
* Strong mechanical engineering skills
* Expertise in design simulation tools and analysis techniques
* .
* Ability to provide technical leadership as it relates to product and process design
* Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied sources.
* Excellent organizational, communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

* Strong leadership skills
* Medical device experience
* Solid clinical knowledge and experience in cardiovascular anatomy
* Class II or Class III Medical Device product development experience
* Ability to research literature and develop clinical understanding with technical credibility to develop a strategy for regulatory submission
* Experience developing and validating test methods
* Solid experimental design and statistical analysis knowledge
* Experience with BSC quality systems
* Nitinol experience
