POSITION PURPOSE: The Human Resources Assistant I is an entry level position that provides administrative/clerical support to one or more areas of Human Resources (e.g. Employee Record retention and retrieval, H.R./Payroll Processing, Training and Development, Benefits, Compensation).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Provides administrative/clerical support as needed (e.g. receiving and responding to telephone and email Human Resources/Payroll-related inquiries; receiving, sorting and distributing mail; distributing reports; generating written communications). 20%

2. Compiles and copies confidential and sensitive employee records information for review by internal and external customers. 20%

3. Acts as a liaison between Human Resources and employees, both internal and external, regarding Human Resources/Payroll-related issues. 20%

4. Establishes and maintains employee records files and documentation. 30%

5. Assists with administering a wide variety of programs in support of one or more Human Resources areas. 10%

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Education Level: The most appropriate minimum education for this position is a high school diploma or GED.

Specialization: Business English (i.e. grammar, spelling, writing composition) Basic Computer Skills (i.e. Word, Excel) Basic Math Filing

Experience Level: The most appropriate level of experience for this position is 1 to 2 years plus the education listed above

Types of Work Situations: 1 - 2 years in a general office environment, preferably in Human Resources

Skills and Background:
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills - Strong verbal and written communication skills - Strong basic math skills - Strong organizational skills with attention to detail - Strong ability to multi-task and master new responsibilities quickly - Ability to use a computer to enter and/or retrieve information - Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel - Experience filing with large filing systems

KEY CONTACTS:
Internal Contacts: - Retail Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager & Office Clerk - Daily calls and emails from all stores - Ongoing requests for rehire status of termed employees and information contained in employee personnel files (e.g. information on employment applications, warning notices, etc.) - Senior Attorneys - Approximately 20+ times per month - Requests for employee records information to be used in conjunction with various pending legal issues - Labor Contract Administrators - Several times daily - Requests for employee records information to be used in conjunction with various pending union issues - H.R. Advisors - Daily - Requests for employee records information to be used in conjunction with researching various employee issues and conducting employee investigations - H.R. Coordinators - Daily - Requests for employee records information in conjunction with newly hired employees - H.R. Assistant II's - Several times daily - Ongoing requests from co-workers to assist in locating and researching employee records information

External Contacts: - Representatives from Law Enforcement Agencies who have been authorized by employees to review their personnel files in conjunction with their application for employment with the agency - Financial Institutions, Lenders, Prospective Employers - Receive calls on a daily basis that have come into Human Resources in error and should have been directed to the "Work Number"

The functions and responsibilities associated with the Human Resources Assistant I position will vary widely, depending on whether the position supports a Retail Division or a Backstage Operation.

In 1939, Joe Albertson, a former Safeway district manager, took $5,000 he saved and $7,500 he borrowed from his wife’s Aunt Bertie, and partnered with L.S. Skaggs to open his first Albertsons store on 16th and State Streets in Boise, Idaho.
