The User Experience -- Shop Experience Department has an opening for a Sr. UX Product Design Strategy Architect. This position is located in Pleasanton, California.
Position Purpose
The Senior Architect works with UX management and the business at large to define and design product user experience that enables the customers of our 18 banner brands under the Albertson's Companies to seamlessly and easily shop across channels and help our brands deliver the best customer service from product discovery through delivery. The position is a key individual contributor for the department, playing a key role in developing the multi-year experience roadmap for customer-facing features and functionalities for the universe of Albertson's Digital properties that drive customer and business value to the company.
Strong candidates should possess a proven track record of delivery, working and influencing in a cross-functional context, and using data to drive decision-making. The Principal Architect will draw on his/her experience to build relationships and maximize the quality of his/her individual output.
The ideal candidate will have a customer first mentality as well as grounding in design thinking as a way to change our business. A deep understanding of customer research, knowledge gathering, ideation, prototyping, design process and concept visualization/prototyping are baseline for this role.
This position reports to the Director of User Experience
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Leads the development of features and functionality for Albertson's app and websites, including the identification of business opportunities, requirements definition, gaining support and buy in from UX/Design Leadership, and then following on with project implementation and continuous improvement
* Combining a strong understanding of customer needs with an equally deep understanding of business goals to champion solutions that deliver value for the Albertson's Companies
* Independently identifies new opportunities and works with product to develop business case/ROI for projects in particularly ambiguous, complex, and emerging domains, including:
* Gathering input from a variety of internal stakeholders, and external resources
* Conducting industry analysis (identifying market trends)
* Understanding the competitive landscape (identifying best practices through competitive analysis)
* Analyzing existing Albertson's Company data, and conducting user research/testing
* Evaluating technologies (internal capabilities, and vendor offerings)
* Socializes opportunity assessments and scope POVs, driving to alignment among the highest level of leadership in the organization
* Collaborate with Product Management to define best-in-class customer experience, approach, and vision for key customer facing features on the Albertson's digital properties and supporting systems
* Own end-to-end design process of product features and iterations, drive design requirements
* Autonomously leads and motivates multiple cross-functional teams throughout the entire life cycle of product development
* Participates in Agile Project Inception, Iteration meetings
* Defines user stories - customer journeys as part of an Agile project framework that:
* Directly support primary objectives of the project
* Develops designs that are appropriate in size for experimentation and or iterative design delivery
* Include clear and specific acceptance criteria
* Independently resolves specific challenges related to how a feature/tool will work for Albertson's customer or business user and make trade-offs of scope, time & budget when issues arise during development
* Drives change within the division, including the adoption of design thinking/customer experience best practices, integration into business processes (for management/optimization of app and website features)
* Accountable for the design/experience business impact of the products designed, using analysis to measure the results of feature deployments to quantify the business benefit/impact, and identify further business opportunities or recommendations of product evolution
* Structure customer research in partnership with the UX research team
* If necessary, coordinates with outside vendors and partners to ensure their work is delivered on time and on scope
Qualifications:
* Education/Experience:
* 7+ years relevant professional experience required, BS/BA degree required, Graduate studies preferred
* Communication Skills:
* Must be able to clearly communicate, sell, persuade at all levels of management, up, down and across organization
* Design Specific Skills:
* 7+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: user experience, information architecture, or creative design
* Internet and retail experience strongly preferred
* 1-2 years of experience managing direct reports
* Strong analytical, prioritization and negotiating skills
* Usability and customer-focused design experience required
* Passionate about building great user experiences and solving customer and business problems
Reasoning Ability:
The most successful candidates will be not only self-starting, but opportunity identifying and able to put a plan together to achieve success in collaboration but minimal supervision from UX leadership
Decision Making:
Is this individual the final authority on what the user experience sees as important in terms of vision delivery at a product/feature level. This role will participate in the clear and consistent delivery of a unified experience cross channel/device and, advisory responsibility over evaluation of high value work and the process governing the work.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This is an individual contributor role but will have to coordinate other with design resources as needed on projects.
Reporting Responsibility:
This position reports directly to the Director of User Experience
Work Hours:
Full time, flexible, in office, with satellite offices and stores, and as needed

In 1939, Joe Albertson, a former Safeway district manager, took $5,000 he saved and $7,500 he borrowed from his wife’s Aunt Bertie, and partnered with L.S. Skaggs to open his first Albertsons store on 16th and State Streets in Boise, Idaho.
