Finishing Operations Shift Manager

Job Description

Cleveland-Cliffs Steel, Rockport Works, is currently seeking a Shift Manager of Operations at 6500 N. US 231, Rockport, IN. Under the direction of the Operations Section Manager, the Shift Manager is responsible for administration of the safety program and environmental conformance while providing the operations hourly bargaining unit crew the necessary leadership, coordination of effort and controls during the scheduled turn schedule in order to produce a product of the highest quality at the lowest possible cost.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Supervises shift operations associated with the processing of steel to protect and ensure its highest possible quality. Assumes responsibility for, develops and administers department objectives, program and policies related to safety, quality, production and scheduling procedures and generates required documentation.
* Implement policy procedures and/or programs with regard to production and employment procedures so the department objectives may be realized.
* Controls the operation of one turn in the department and ensures the continued success of the operation. Assigns work force and work assignments in conformance with pre-arranged work schedules. Changes work schedules during the turn, if necessary, to accommodate changes in operating conditions, such as insertion of rush items, equipment breakdowns, etc.
* Provides know-how throughout the turn with respect to principles, procedures and processes. Makes frequent inspections of the assigned operations and material movement, initiates revised methods or procedures within the limits of normal practice.
* Resolves problems created by breakdowns, schedule changes, metallurgical procedure changes, etc.
* Reports performance of unit for shift and documents all production related issues.
* Communicates with Production Planning regarding product line-up issues.
* Administers discipline as required.

Qualifications:

* Bachelors Degree in related field; or combination of education and equivalent work experience
* 3 years minimum leadership experience in similar industry
* Must be willing to work 4/4 schedule- nights/days/weekends rotating 12 hours shift
* Keen analytical skills
* Knowledge, and demonstrated compliance for safe procedures
* Demonstrated organizational skills, strong computer skills, and authentic and compelling communication skills
* Ability to train, lead and hold others accountable for compliance of safety and quality
