Job Description

AK Steel has an immediate opening for a Commodity Buyer to join our Purchasing team in West Chester, OH. The Commodity Buyer will be responsible for developing, managing, pricing and maintaining contracts with our suppliers and will have responsibility for some combination of: Industrial Gasses, Water Treatment Services, bulk Acids, Fuels, Caustic, Oils, Process Chemicals, and other commodity categories as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Full ownership of suppliers within the commodities assigned including: writing and managing contracts, pricing, quality, and performance.
* Continuously strives to reduce total cost of procured goods and services. Negotiates favorable pricing, terms, and price protection in order to obtain best value for AK.
* Meet/exceed annual cost savings goals and report commodity spend.
* Keeps abreast of market conditions as to availability, price, and quality of assigned commodities.
* Reviews assigned incoming requisitions and determines best buying methods.
* Seeks input from management and Legal on contract requirements and purchasing issues in a timely fashion.
* Keeps management aware of situations and proposes action plans before they become large issues.
* Follows department policies and procedures, and participates in activities to continuously improve department workflow.
* Work closely with Engineering, Plant Technicians and Department Managers as well as their peers from the supply organizations.
* Travel occasionally as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

* Bachelors degree
* Mid-high level Purchasing and Procurement experience
* High attention to detail
* Strong negotiation and analytical skills
* Intermediate-advanced level Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
* Strong communication skills, both oral and written
* Resourceful and takes initiative
* Strategic thinker and able to overcome obstacles
* Flexible with a sense of urgency
* Successful in fast paced environments
* High standard of Ethics
* Ability to read and interpret specs & drawings
* Team player

Preferred:

* Program Management, Engineering, Contract Management or military equivalent
* Manufacturing environment
