Department: Research and Development

Position Summary:

The Associate Chemist works under the supervision of a research scientist or researcher. Conducts routine to complex experimental procedures. Supports assay development, validation, launching of new diagnostic tests and improvement of assays used within a field of clinical testing.

Essential Job Duties:

* With supervision, develops and validates new assay, enhance current assays including research and bench level testing.
* Maintains all appropriate records regarding data collection, documentation and interpretation of results.
* Adheres to the standard operating procedures and safety requirements of Esoterix, CLIA, CAP and other regulatory bodies.
* Documents all activities as necessary including preventative maintenance logs, instrument function checks, troubleshooting, and quality control to ensure regulatory compliance.
* Participates in projects that require training and following established guidelines.
* Works with Automation team and assists in the designing and implementation of automated processes.
* Works with reagent preparation team to ensure reagents and materials are available prior to test launch.
* Follows any other job-related instructions and performs any other job related duties requested by department management.

Gains knowledge of department operations and procedures under direct supervision and in an entry-level capacity. Conducts qualitative and quantitative analyses on organic and inorganic samples to determine their chemical properties. Participates in development of new analytical procedures. Gains knowledge of department operations and procedures.

Requirements

Required Education/Degree:

Bachelor's Degree in a life science field of study ( biology, chemistry, analytical chemistry or related science is preferred).

Required Work Experience:

Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience.

Required Certification/License:

None

Physical Demands:

Requires utilization of fingers and hands, walking, standing-remaining on one's feet in an upright position, sitting-remaining in the normal seated position.

Working Conditions:

There is occasional exposure to potential blood-borne pathogens, toxic or caustic chemicals and radiation.
