The Position

Responsible for the timely preparation of quality monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external GAAP-basis deliverables, including balance sheets, P&L reports, and 10-Q/K style reporting. Provides accounting and financial analysis services in support of internal and Corporate/SBU customers. Utilizes accounting and investment knowledge to perform analysis, research variances, and resolve issues as they arise in order to present findings/recommendations to Management. Prepares reports efficiently and effectively utilizing strong data management skills. Maintains financial controls over financial reporting/systems and evaluates and recommends improvements to the operational processes. Position resides in Investments Financial Reporting.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

* Prepares quarterly financial reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, specifically including debt securities, public and private equity investments and derivatives.
* Prepares monthly financial reports in conjunction with closing deadlines, utilizing a broad knowledge of accounting principles. Analyze results and presents findings to Management.
* Prepares special analyses of investment activity and holdings as required on either a periodic or ad hoc basis.
* Assists with the preparation of annual rating agency surveys and reports.
* Researches accounting and financial reporting requirements and recommends accounting treatment for transactions.
* Assists in the annual audit and quarterly review with external auditors.
* Recommends process improvements to increase efficiency in financial reporting, financial analysis, or in the internal control environment.
* Assists with the management of Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance.
* Partners with other departments on special projects and strategic initiatives as needed.
Qualifications:
* Bachelors degree in accounting or finance and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
* Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial analysis skills.
* Strong investment securities knowledge.
* Strong communication, written and interpersonal skills.
* CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
* Ability to apply analytical business acumen to financial reports.
* Ability to connect business data needs to systematic processes and tools.
* Ability to effectively work in a team environment and with different levels of management and with key stakeholders within the Investments group as well as other SBUs and Corporate Departments.
* Advanced level Excel proficiency required.
