Primary Responsibilities
* Using aseptic technique and under minimal supervision processes air, water, and bio-burden samples for determination of microbial contamination; performs special monitoring as assigned
* Performs airborne particulate monitoring in controlled environmental areas entering data into handheld computers
* Laboratory Information Management System or paperwork as applicable according to departmental procedures
* Carefully reads and tabulates test results entering all data into the computer system or paperwork as required
* Performs Gram stain and other microbiological and physiochemcial procedures as requested by the department supervision | Performance of macroscopic identity testing of microbial cultures according to standard microbiological methods
* Performs routine microbial air monitoring; performs critical site testing, routine surface testing, and personnel monitoring, as specified in departmental SOP's
* Enters all information into handheld computers, LIMs or paperwork as required | All testing is performed under minimal supervision and may be used in the evaluation of product or release
* Assists departmental supervision in training new technicians as required by demonstrating work procedures and familiarizing new employees with various testing areas around test sites
* Prepares and fills special culture media
* Maintains stock and in-process cultures
* Maintains technician's supply inventory
* Is knowledgeable of and follows all applicable Current Good Manufacturing Practice and Safety guidelines in the performance of all duties
* Maintains good laboratory and housekeeping practices
* Prepares testing equipment and necessary supplies as needed | Reports all defective equipment to supervision | Participates in the preventative maintenance of testing equipment
* Interacts with other department computer systems to operate departmental automated systems (sampling)
* Receives assignments from Team/Department Supervision or coordinates own work schedule, and with minimal supervision
* Assist with problem resolution of test samples
* Knowledgeable of all testing methods and site as assigned
* Assists with submission of microbial samples for ID
* Supports per process/fill testing as required. Performs testing and/or check-ins of production plates into lab as required
* Prepares Micro, Chem, LA and other sample bottles according to daily water collection schedules | Collects water samples aseptically for microbial, USP Chem, and all Limulus Amebocyte Lysate testing
* Prepares laboratory equipment and supplies | Stocks all supplies, such as glassware and rums that are used by departmental personnel on an on-going basis | Rotates equipment and supplies delivered, returning out of date materials
* Operates AMSCO Eagle series 3043 gravity and vacamatic sterilizer as per established procedures. Sorts and tags sterile material and transports to proper areas
* Logs water samples into LIMS system and delivers samples to appropriate testing areas
* Places culture media in the cold vault and storage cabinets when it is delivered after verifying that the amount ordered has been shipped and inspected for contamination, bottle cracks, etc. | Fills staging area with media as needed for testing
* Discards backup water samples following notification of satisfactory test results
* Removes recyclable waste, such as poly bottles, and hazardous waste to mezzanine for transport
* Performs various miscellaneous duties, such as changing recorder charts, cleaning incubators, cold vaults, and storage areas
* Maintains a clean and orderly work area
* Assists in performing paraformaldehyde decons of assigned area following departmental procedures
* Takes clean steam condensate samples as assigned following departmental procedures
* Assists during the certification of High Efficiency Particulate Air filtered equipment by performing any necessary mechanically-oriented procedures as directed to accomplish the certification
Education Minimum Requirement
* High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 60 credits from an accredited college/university with the following course work:
* Minimum of 4 credits in Biological Sciences with lab
* Minimum of 4 credits in Microbiology or Bacteriology with lab
* Minimum of 4 credits in General Chemistry with a lab
* Minimum of 3 credits in Mathematics
