VP Infrastructure Platform Engineering - Cloud Native Services & Compute

We are Cloud Native Services & Compute (CNSC), an organisation within NewsTech whose purpose is to be the engine of transformation for NewsTech and our business units around the world to better achieve their goals in a faster and more cost effective manner. We want to be recognized by product engineering & editorial staff in all of News Corp global business units as a key enabler in their ability to achieve their goals and ambitions.

We are looking for a VP Infrastructure Platform Engineering who will play a key strategic role within the Cloud Native Services & Compute (CNSC) organisation of NewsTech to help in achieving our shared services vision for all News Corp companies.

This successful candidate will be required to work with the other members of the CNSC senior leadership team to develop and execute the strategic long-term plan for the organisation whilst also setting and implementing the tactical direction needed for the platform engineering needs of the organisation and the wider corporation.

Location: As we are a global organisation, location is flexible dependent on the availability of the correct candidate and we will consider candidates in multiple locations.

Job Responsibilities:

* Work together with other members of the CNSC senior leadership team in order to utilise the corporation's vast computing & operations infrastructure to help build a world class platform to facilitate the storage, versioning, building, testing and release of application and infrastructure code via continuous delivery pipelines.
* Must partner with engineering leaders across News Corp to define and implement successful software engineering solutions, processes and standards and work to provide shared services that help foster and support such initiatives.

* Work closely with the central software engineering organisation to help develop, implement and oversee the maintenance of global engineering policies and procedures, standards, governance processes and performance metrics.

* Lead platform engineering strategy, vision, roadmap development and execution, identifying opportunities for automation, cost savings, and service quality improvement.

* Direct team(s) responsible for supporting and building the shared services needed to support our global business units. This includes all infrastructure platform engineering groups within CNSC.

* Facilitate an automation first mentality across the organisation by supporting and implementing strong operations and infrastructure as code capabilities.

* Lead and develop technical solutions/innovations and products, including the design/development of proof-of-concepts and implementation of completed solutions contributing to the success of the above mentioned platform.

* Facilitate and work closely with all parts of the organisation to facilitate cloud adoption, cloud migration and deployment, digital transformation, database, networking, middleware, and full software development lifecycle management.

* Foster an understanding of enterprise software development tools and methodologies, including typical enterprise application architectures across the organisation.

* Evangelize strategies to other engineering leaders within the business units whilst demonstrating practical execution capabilities.

* Managing the people, budget, assets and resources required to maintain, support and improve our service offering to our partners across our global business units.

* Enable innovation across the organisation and seek to leverage industry trends and innovations that can create business value consistent with the companys requirements and expectations.

* Responsible for financial aspects associated with the operational expenses of deployed engineering solutions whilst working together with other areas of NewsTech. This includes purchasing, vendor management and negotiation, budgeting, cost/benefit analysis and budget review.

* Create and implement policies and objectives to ensure successful operations whilst maximising return on investment for the organisation.

* Engage in a formal governance mechanism to establish and monitor effective controls for the processes and functions performed by infrastructure engineering & operations teams.

* Facilitate and foster collaboration across the platform engineering discipline not just within NewsTech but across all business units within News Corp. Utilizing open-source best practices and processes where appropriate.

* Maintain technology standards across all programs to align with organizational technology standards.

* Collaborates with the office of the Chief Information Security Office to ensure infrastructure and operations embrace and apply security strategy.

* Collaborate with the other functions within NewsTech such as the Business Operations, Architecture and Service Management & Operations to ensure infrastructure and operations embrace and apply the overarching NewsTech and News Corp strategies.

* Develop leaders within the organization in order to ensure knowledge is shared across the team to facilitate global support capabilities.

Qualifications:

* Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology (preferred)
* 8+ years experience in systems or software engineering for software applications at scale

* 4+ years experience managing cloud-based or hybrid infrastructures at scale

* Strong technical acumen in areas of engineering operations (software release management, disaster recovery, devops, and site reliability)

* Experience and knowledge of technologies including but not limited to cloud services, on-premise data centres, databases, SANS, networking, telecommunications and software engineering

* Experience and knowledge of software engineering security best practices, including but not limited to end-point protection and cloud security

* Specific knowledge and experience of Amazon Web Services required, additional knowledge of other cloud providers preferred

* Proven experience in driving transformational change

Unusual Challenges/Circumstances:

* The role is global in nature and may, therefore, require global travel to our offices in geographies outside that in which the successful candidate resides.
* The candidate will need to work with individuals and businesses in all corners of the world, and as such may need to participate in activities outside of normal working hours in order to ensure maximum global participation.
