Job Description

The Speech Team is part of the Applied Research organization within Facebook AI. The team carries out applied research in the speech processing areas including keyword spotting, speaker verification, speech recognition and synthesis. The team supports Facebook products such as Facebook Portal devices, Oculus VR headsets, and video captioning for Instagram. The ideal candidate should have experience performing research or development on speech recognition systems. The candidate for this role should be experts in neural networks and machine learning, and be able to push the state-of-the-art in speech processing.

Research Scientist, Speech (PhD) Responsibilities

* Develop speech algorithms based on state-of-the-art machine learning and neural network methodologies.

* Optimize the performance of speech processing for on-device applications.

* Collaborate with product teams to build integrated speech processing systems.

Minimum Qualifications

* Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics.

* Experience in C/C++.

* Familiar with scripting languages such as Python and shell scripts.

* Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualifications

* Research and software engineer experience demonstrated via grants, fellowships, patents, internship, work experience, and/or coding competitions.

* Research background in speech processing and deep learning.

* Experience with development on embedded devices.

* First-authored publications at peer-reviewed conferences (e.g. ICASSP, INTERSPEECH, or similar).
