The Boeing Defense, Space and Security organization is seeking an Associate Mechanical Design and Analysis Engineer (Level-2) at Sylmar, CA.

This is not a union represented position.

Position Overview:

Spectrolab, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, is seeking highly-motivated and talented engineer for product & process design/analysis and development in support of programs, products, and new technology assessment for both our Photovoltaic and Illuminations Systems Product Lines. The ideal candidate should be passionate, self-driven and excited to be on the forefront of providing innovative, affordable and enduring space and airborne products.

The successful candidate should be able to adapt to the changes and learning new skill sets as needed to optimize processes and procedures and/or to balance workloads to support a dynamic market environment.

Primary responsibilities:

* Generate/review manufacturing documents for assigned programs/products and support manufacturing for correct implementation of the design.

* Interact with suppliers and peer groups within Spectrolab for accurate and timely realization of the product.

* Identify long lead materials, tooling and testing requirements for the product.

* Generate product Bill of Materials (BOM)

* Work closely with Designers to generate and update part and assembly documentation needed for procurement, manufacturing and assembly, including generation of 3D models, verification of model tolerances, and model management in VAULT.

* Perform the necessary analyses, heritage assessments, and develop test plans as needed to verify design conformance to requirements.

* Work closely with manufacturing, planning, procurement and suppliers to assess planning and production issues as they emerge, and provide clear and concise decisions and dispositions.

* Lead assigned new product development and/or obsolescence recovery efforts:

* Translate customer/product requirements into documentation for parts and materials procurement, product manufacturing and testing.

* Perform mechanical, electrical, reliability/FMEA, EMC, and DFMAT analyses to optimize new product designs within the confines of schedule and cost objectives.

* Prepare product design review documents and design analysis reports, and make effective presentations to internal Technology Change Review Board and customers.

* Qualify new products and write qualification reports.

* Provide technical support to purchasing, the marketing team and customers.

* Perform product non-conformance and failure analysis; identify and lead implementation of appropriate corrective actions and hardware dispositions.

* Assess product and process performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement in product, cost, schedule, and market capture performance.

Work Authorization:

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a US Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. US Person includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

* Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Discipline.

* Experience supporting both internal and external customers across multiple disciplines using interpersonal, analytical, and presentation skills to communicate technical requirements, analysis results, production plans and risk mitigation strategies to a diverse group.

* Experience with reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, material processes, schematic and diagrams.

* Experience do you have developing 3D CAD models and/or drawings.

* Experience working in a production support capacity for a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

* Willing to work alternating shifts, holidays, and weekends to support customers needs and to complete scheduled milestones as planned.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

* Experience with drawing, reading and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

* Experience working with 3D modeling, 2D drawings and drawing packages.

* Experience do you have using Autodesk Pro Suite (AutoCAD Inventor VAULT)

* Experience writing, debugging and maintaining test software in C++, LabView or Visual Basic.

* Experience in building/wiring/troubleshooting electro-mechanical assemblies.

* Experience/familiarity with complex gimbaled systems, FAA safety of flight testing requirements, high voltage illuminations or electro-mechanical systems.

* Experience working Finite Element Analysis techniques and basic thermal analysis, preferably using Inventor Pro Suite Analysis package (including definition of model, mesh, and boundary conditions and interpretation/presentation of the results).

* Experience with PCB design, inclusive of logic circuits and programming.

* Willing to travel 10% of the time.

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:
